"Congratulations Sir/Madam, w..we have exceeded our m..m..onthly quota by 75%. The new advertising campaign you called for r..r..really paid off. I will have the full report on your desk by the end of work today."

Sam, the new apprentice stood on the other side of your desk. The sweat beaded on his forehead, his eyes darted across the room and you could almost hear his heartbeat from across the room. He had only been here a few weeks. Were you really this scary? You thought you were actually quite a nice boss. Generous pay, lots of holiday. Maybe he was just nervous because it was the first meeting with the big mean boss.

"Come Sam, take a seat and please, please. Call me Y/N. Calling me Sir/Madam makes me feel so old. Can I get you anything? Tea, coffee, biscuits?" You gestured to the armchair that had been in the same spot in your office since you had been there.

"No thank you Y/N, sorry Y/N. Everybody has said how lovely you are, I just ... It's just ... this is my first real job and I'm afraid to let everyone down" Sam looked down at the floor and tears started to form at the corners of his eyes.

"You are doing a fantastic job Sam, everyone here agrees with me. To show my appreciation, why don't you take a few days off work, your mother's coming into town right? Why don't you show her some of the sights?" You see a smile start to form at the edge of Sam's mouth.

"Thank you, Y/N," Sam stood up from his seat to take leave. He turned towards the dark, oak doors and took a few steps.

"Sam, could you do me a favour and send Marie in for me please on your way out? And thank you again for all your hard work."

"Of course, Y/N, I'll send her right in, thanks again."

Sam struggled to open the old, heavy doors but after a few huffs and puffs he was out. The sweet, old lady that was Marie followed. Her steel coloured hair was put in a bun today, different to her usual style. Her rosy cheeks never failed to make you smile and her laugh could melt the hearts of the sternest foes. She did not hesitate to take a seat and help herself to a chocolate bourbon from the tray on the desk. Marie had been here for longer than you had ... longer than anyone had. You thought you would do something to show your appreciation for her that was something more than a few days off.

"Marie, this is your 50th year with the company and everyone here is just astounded. We were thinking that we could throw a small party or get you a bottle of champagne ... but we know that just isn't you. Tell me please, how is the charity work going?" You hold her hands across the table.

"Well, it has been slow. Since the Omnic crisis times are hard, but me and the other girls understand that so were just happy to provide what we can."

There she goes again, that damn smile. Marie never fails to make your heart warm no matter what you are going through.

"Well Marie, I ask because I wanted to do something a little special for you. We have an increase of roughly 50% profit since last year, and I wanted 25% of that to go to a charity of your choice. Would that be okay?"

The tears ran down Marie's cheeks. She stood up and gave you a hug you didn't think you would survive.

"Well Y/N, you know that we have been a company that supports omnics, even before the crisis. Is it okay for the money to go to them in some way? I know a few charities that support them and I would love to help as much as I can."

There was a shine in Marie's eyes that you had never seen before.

"Of course, Marie, it is settled then. Give me the names of the charities and I will send the money over, in your name of course, as soon as I possibly can."

You expected a response from Marie, a thank you, another hug, a kiss, just ... something. But instead she just stood there with her mouth open.

"Marie, Marie are you okay?"

She did nothing for a few minutes before she raised her hand and pointed to the clocktower behind you. You turned around and scanned the area behind you, you couldn't see what she was pointing at.

Suddenly you saw it.

Those three red dots far in the distance.

You knew this day was coming.

You were warned.

"Support those filthy omnics and you will not see the light of next week."

You received the note a few days ago and to begin with you just presumed it was a joke. But then more notes came.

"This is your last warning before we send somebody."

Your heart dropped, your eyes were locked onto hers. Sweat beaded on your forehead. You knew that you should have at least tried to get out of the way but you were frozen in fear. You had heard tales of "Widowmaker". The great assassin, slayer of kings and men. They said she had no emotions and that her skin was blue, but you thought all that was just rumour.

You knew this was the work of talon, you thought they were empty threats, but you should have known that talon do not do empty threats. Especially when it comes to omnic supporters.

The few seconds felt like hours. First you heard the gun shot, then the stained-glass window shatter. They say a bullet travels at 3000 feet per second. So how could you hear the shot, but still feel like there was time to file a police report for your own assassination?

She may have been a few hundred meters away, but somehow you could still see the crease of the smirk on that pale blue face as the bullet connected with yours.

It is kind of ironic, you never really were afraid of spiders ...
