The smell of searing flesh filled your nostrils, the dead bodies scattered the swiss headquarters. Nobody knew where the explosion came from, it was presumably Talon but you didn't really care at that moment in time, you only wanted to get out. Fires crackled in the various rooms of the accommodation halls.
You ran through the halls, you had spent many years working here in the medical field with Dr Ziegler, who had already ran into the flames, armoured in her Valkyrie suit in an attempt to save lives, as she always did. She had told you not to follow her, to go in the opposite direction and to just save yourself, for once you were going to take her advice.
You darted through the halls, running through the long, never-ending corridors, dodging falling rubble and jumping over stacks of debris. Smoke filled your lungs and burned your eyes, you felt the constant heat on your skin as you tied a jumper around your face to try and block out some of the smoke.
You turned into the cafeteria, the fire had blocked off the stairwell and this was the only way down to the lower floors, you didn't fancy jumping out of the fourth story window but it very well may have been your best chance at survival. You kicked open the heavy doors of the cafeteria, the air thick with smoke and dust, the whole hall had collapsed, the way was blocked with thick rock and debris.
The fire had chased you down the halls, the way behind you was also blocked, with a roaring flame. The only way out of the window, either climbing down or jumping into the thick snow below and hoping for the best. You ran over to the large window that overlooked the mountains of Zurich, stopping at the opening and looking down you could not bring yourself to jump.
You fell to your knees, you felt weak, afraid and death was not a far venture but you had come to accept this fate. A pile of rubble lay next to you, which you leaned upon and closed your eyes, waiting for your life to end.
The world went silent and dark.
The tranquillity was spoiled by coughing from under the rubble. You shot up and stared at the pile of rocks, maybe you were hearing things thanks to the smoke inhalation? You could not just leave it, Angela had told you that if there was ever a chance to save a life, you must take it, protect the vulnerable at all costs.
You tugged at the stack of rock and steel re-bars, a sudden burst of adrenaline fuelled your instincts as you yanked the top boulder off, revealing a person, their face was covered in blood, as they wheezed and spluttered blood. This person was not fully... a person. The only thing that looked flesh was their left arm and shoulder, even their nose and mouth was enclosed in a metallic mask, their eyes rolled in their head as you pulled them out.
There was a small flask on your hip that held water, you had picked it up as you left because... it just seemed like a useful thing to bring. You pulled the mask off of the person, you brought the flask to their lips as they sipped from the flask, this seemed to bring them back to reality.
"Thank you." He managed to squeeze out from his almost lifeless body, he managed to stand up, using you to support him.
"How can I repay you?"
"You do not need to, I was just following the advice of Ziegler."
He looked up at you, "Huh, Ziegler? If you see her, tell her I said hi, the name is Genji... Genji Shimada."
He stood unsupported for a few moments, he lifted his leg up before powerfully kicking you in the chest, sending you crashing through the window and flying through the air. Glass swirled around you as you fell from the cafeteria window and towards the floor. Your heart sank and your stomach did flips, you closed your eyes and waited for the crack as you hit the floor.
Instead you landed in the padded snow, it felt like a very large, very cold pillow that caught you and broke your fall. The figure stood at the edge of the window, overlooking you from the fourth floor, you just managed to make out his silhouette.
He bowed and raised his hands to make a salute, before dashing away into the flames.
