Being in the Ecopoint Research Facility could be rather boring. You enjoyed your work and spending time with your colleagues, mainly one of them, but when it came to recreation it was near to none. You were in the middle of Antarctica, so unless you wanted to go dance with a penguin there wasn't too much to do. Everyone had brought books and some DVDs, but to be far after being there this long you'd made your way through them all and none of them made you really want to repeat them again.
With all your work for the day being over, you were offered to join a game of monopoly but that being one of the games you had managed to play to death, you kindly declined and made your way over to the desk where your close friend Mei was sat finishing up her work.
"Hey Mei," you grinned, still not failing to find it amusing that her name rhymed with the greeting.
"Hello," she smiled back, closing the last window she had been working on.
"What's your plan for the rest of the evening?" You asked her, hoping she had a plan you could jump in on.
With a gentle shrug of her shoulders, she smiled at you gently. "Nothing actually, do you want to do something together? We haven't spoken much since all this new data came through, so it'd be nice to spend some time together without discussing the weather."
You were glad you could spend time with her, but you couldn't help your shoulders slumping as you realised neither of you really had any plans for the day.
"Yeah... yeah that'd be great," you smiled.
Mei span a little in her chair, placing her hands on her knees eagerly looking up at you as you were standing before her.
"Do you have anything planned?" She questioned.
It took you a moment to rake your brain for something to do. There was limited options there, and dancing with penguins was beginning to look rather appealing at this point.
"Well we have those old yoga mats in the back," you offered. "We have spent the majority of the last fortnight hunched at desks, it'd probably do us some good to stretch our muscles before they turn into a form of mush."
Without a moment to think Mei's nose scrunched up, clearly not too amused by what you had offered her. The mats that had been slung in the back were likely covered in dust. You all had high hopes to do some exercise and stretching around the desk based work you all did to stay healthy, but quickly it was all thrown out of the window, leaving you all sat down all day, mainly eating instant noodles.
"Not your cup of tea?" You asked.
You knew that Mei had participated in yoga when you had all first started doing it, but she certainly wasn't sad when everyone decided not to bother anymore. She was pretty good at it as far as you could remember, however it was more down to enjoyment rather than skill when it came to a pastime.
"Not really. But a cup of hot chocolate, now I could agree to that," she smiled hopefully.
It was rather the opposite of what you had suggested, but it didn't sound completely unappealing.
"We've spent so long sitting down, Mei. We should really try to exercise, not just sit down and drink hot chocolate, that's hardly good for us," you sighed, trying to not comply with her choice, but you were faltering rather quickly.
She reached a hand out to gently rest on your wrist, giving you a reassuring and sweet smile.
"Wouldn't you rather huddle up with a blanket, put on one of those terrible old DVD's and sip on lovely hot chocolate; or get all sweaty and be the laughing stock of everyone for how terrible we are at yoga?"
Mei had a point. She always knew how to get you to sway on what you knew you should really be doing, to actually do something that you enjoyed more but shouldn't really have picked.
Running a hand through your hair, you tried to gather more willpower, but there was absolutely none left within you. You had nothing you could possible argue against that point as it seemed lovely.
Conceding to her suggestion, you let your eyes roll at yourself and how little you thought the point.
She jumped out of her office chair, grabbing your hand. Mei practically dragged you to the kettle, filling it and clicking it on. The two of you grabbed your brightly coloured mugs that had gotten you through the cold evenings in the research facilities with different heated beverages. Between you, you filled the two mugs with the piping hot liquid that you both loved so dearly carrying it over to the lounging area, curling up on the sofa. Pulling the quilt over you and having a sip of your drink, you sighed allowing yourself to slip down into your seat embracing the warmth and comfort.
With a gentle smirk you turned to Mei who was holding the remote control, turning on one of the terrible films.
"So how's the weather?"
