"Brains and beauty, and tonight you'll have another award sitting on the shelf to prove it." Angela couldn't help but blush, this prestigious award recognising her medical work and technological innovations was far, far overdue but finally it would be clutched tightly in her arms as you stumbled back into your home.
"Stop it." She pulled the tight dress away from her stomach. "I knew I shouldn't have gone for something so form fitting. I'm going to be standing in front of thousands of people looking like a sack of potatoes in a glittery black dress." She slumped down in one of the dark wood chairs that surrounded your large dining table and began inspecting every nook and cranny of her face in her compact mirror. Her fingers dragged across her forehead and down her nose, she brought it under here eyes and into the corners of her mouth before slamming it shut and burying her head deeply into her arms.
"You look fantastic." You strolled up beside her and wrapped your arms ever so tightly over her shoulders, letting your arms drape across her collarbones. "Don't put yourself down, you look amazing I promise."
"You're just saying that!" She wiped the smudged make up from her arm and stood back up. "I look like a mess, why did you talk me into buying this."
"You look as good as you have since the day I met you, you know I think you're perfect." You came behind her again, this time wrapping your arms around her waist, she placed her arms over yours and held them tightly.
"Maybe I'll just get someone else to get the award for me... you've spent good money on a suit why don't you collect it?" She gazed up at the other trophies, awards, plaques, and accolades that she had collected through her career and again at the empty spot where tonight's newest honour would stand.
"Because I haven't been a major pioneer in the advancement of medical technology for the last ten years? I also haven't been dropped into active battlefields countless times as one of the few people there that are trying to preserve lives instead of destroying them. You need to be proud of everything you've accomplished."
"Well there is no time to change my outfit now anyway. Might as well go and get my award and just ignore all the scientific journals talking about how terrible I look."
"Honey, I think the very intellectual scientific journals have more to talk about than whether you look good or not in your dress... have you seen some of these guy's moustaches?"
