Old and young men alike, all brandishing freshly pressed suits of mostly black pushed past you, all in a vain attempt to beat the rush hour traffic which was oh-so prevalent.
"Hey, watch where you are going..." The young man, with briefcase in hand didn't even acknowledge you or the fact the had just barged into you, almost knocking you to the ground.
"Don't bother trying to fight it." Genji spoke as he gracefully ducked and weaved through the oncoming crowds with his hands sat deeply in his pockets. "You'll get used to it eventually. Now come on, the place I was telling you about is just around the corner."
You managed to navigate around the corner and to no surprise you saw the restaurant that he described over phone calls, it was less of a restaurant though and more just a small hole in the wall which space was filled with some counters, a stove and a heavy-set man brandishing a mostly white apron and a small hat.
"Tanaka!" Genji hopped onto one of the small bar-like stood outside and gestured for you to follow suit. The man who was hunched over and vigorously scrubbing a very small rack of dishes carefully turned around with a large smile across his chubby face.
"The usual?"
"Not today, get me two of your finest bowls of noodles." Tanaka's eyes drifted over to you, you could see the cogs go around in his head before his eyes lit up and his smile widened.
"This must be that friend that you've been telling me about." He slung a towel onto his stained uniform and leant in to take a closer look at you, adjusting a very round and thin pair of glasses that sat across his bulbous nose as he did so. "Not bad Genji... I see what you mean about the crazy cute thing." From across the miniscule counter Genji's cheeks turned so red that you could almost feel the heat coming off them as he sunk into his stool, trying to hide his face of embarrassment. Tanaka turned around and started to cook your evening meal, throwing in a cacophony of spices, herbs and aromatics to the already bubbling pan of delicious flavours.
There was an awkward silence that probably only lasted about a minute, even though it felt like an eternity.
"You really think I'm cute?" He sunk deeper and deeper.
