As a member of Overwatch, of course you wished for good to prevail, but more so than ever, you wished that the bad would take a break, even just for a weekend. Talon had been on the rise faster and stronger than ever. It was hard enough to have to fight them, to keep the world safe and stop evil from running rampant but then having to fill in all the paperwork afterwards was a pain in the arse.
You hadn't slept properly in months, needing to run missions with the field agents like yourself, but then also coming back to base to make sure everything was filed perfectly and in order. It took its toll on you. You hadn't had a moment to yourself and your girlfriend in a long while between the two of you working for Overwatch and needing to sleep, it felt as though the two of you rarely saw each other.
With every break you got from paperwork, you turned to the gym. It helped keep you alert and at peak physical form for your next mission you had to go on. Although you didn't want to admit it, you knew it had become a way to cope, rather than mentions how swamped and stressed you were to anyone, you took out that frustration on the equipment in the gym.
As you ran on the treadmill, Fareeha approached you. She knew you better than anyone. The two of you had been together for years and were an impeccable team in the field. It was stupid to think she wouldn't notice how overwhelmed you'd become at work.
"Y/N, can I speak with you?" She asked.
You slowed down the machine until you were able to jump off of it, showing your girlfriend a fake smile.
"What'd you need?" You smiled, trying to hide the pain and stress that fought within you.
"I'm worried about you," she said softly.
You cocked an eyebrow at her. "What'd you mean?"
Fareeha let out a sigh. "I love you Y/N, so I know when you're not doing good. You've barely been home, and I know it's been busy here, believe me I get that, but even on your days off you're here doing paperwork, or in the gym. And you are never in the gym usually. I normally have to drag you here."
You attempted to keep the fake smile, but it faltered. You could see the love and care in her eyes, and it broke your walls. Tears fell down your cheeks, as you threw yourself into her arms. She held you close, rubbing your back and making sure you were okay with soft cooing.
Everything flooded out of you. You told her of your stress, how bad you felt about not being there for her, and how work had stacked up so much on your shoulders that you couldn't breathe. Fareeha listened to each sob, holding you close and reassuring you that everything you were thinking was normal. As the crying slowed down, she pulled you away from her slightly, letting her hand caress your cheek.
"Listen Y/N, work gets tough, but you need to know when you need a break. No one is going to judge you if there is paperwork still at your desk when you have a day off, or if you need to take a breather. Please don't let work become a burden."
