The sand got caught in between your toes as the sun shone down. The waves crashed and slapped against the shore as the water tickled your toes. It was not often the Overwatch team did something that was not fight or plan to fight, but every so often Jack Morrison would organise a day out, in his own words 'everyone needs a day off now and then'.
It was a particularly nice day on the coast, the gulls sang their happy song as they glided through the air, the scents of coconut and other exotic fruits filled the air. You felt something tap your side, you looked down to see a frisbee lying on the floor. A timid voice behind you apologised profusely as Mei bent down to pick up the disk.
"Sorry, sorry, I'm so sorry."
"That's okay Mei, I might join you later if that's okay?"
Her face beamed with delight as she clutched the frisbee against her chest, it wasn't often you saw Mei in less than six layers of clothes, she ran back to Fareeha and whispered something into her ear, glancing back at you as she did so. You kept on walking along the beach towards Jack, he always wore the same red Hawaiian shirt, knee length cargo shorts and oh god, he was wearing the socks with sandals again. Nobody had the heart to tell him it wasn't a good look. Even at the beach he was painfully organised. A set of utensils swung from clips on his apron, he would always insist that he had to run the barbeque, even if sometimes the food was... slightly well done at times. He turned to you as you walked up behind him.
"Hey Y/N, can I get you something? Burger? Hotdog?"
You glanced down at the charred items on the grill, burned remnants of what used to be food. It was a hard decision to make, you hadn't eaten since breakfast but at the same time you didn't fancy another trip to the dentist.
"Uumm, I'll pass thanks, I think I remember Angela saying she was hungry though, I can let her know it's ready?"
Jack looked at the floor.
"Oh, okay champ, don't worry about it, I'll give her a shout." A fake smile adorned his stubbly face.
"Oh, what the hell, give me a... I think that's a hotdog... right?"
Jack unclipped the tongs from his apron and spun them around in his hand, a huge smile appeared. He picked up the item, you still weren't sure what it was before placing it in a bun.
"Thanks Jack."
"No problem bud." Jack raised his thumb and flicked the sunglasses from the top of his head onto his eyes.
You walked away from the barbeque, making sure you were out of sight of Jack before placing the charcoaled foodstuff into the correct receptacle. The bin.
