"She's definitely grown. 14.6 pounds and 25 inches long."
"Aw, my baby. You're so big." I kiss Lilia's head and she laughs.
"Have you heard her call you by your name yet?"
"Not just yet. She's definitely been trying, but we haven't exactly made it to that point."
"That's alright. She's really advanced in a lot of other places. You told me she's standing up while holding on to something?"
"Yeah. She'll grab onto like the couch or my leg and pull herself up. There's been a few times when she stayed standing without holding on but that was only a few seconds."
"Excellent! Now for the worst part."
The doctor starts getting the shots ready and I look at Justin. He winks at me and I laugh.
"I'm not ready." I rub Lilia's back.
She has no idea what's coming. She's having so much fun with her feet and it's actually kind of sad if you think about it.
Justin stands up from his chair and walks towards me.
"Wow. You're tall."
"Not really. You're just short."
"How tall are you? 6 feet?"
"Exactly."
"Cool, I'm a psychic. I'm only 5'4."
"Yeah, I totally wanted to know that."
"Shut up. You know you wanted to know."
"Alright, you two. It's time."
I look down at Lilia. She smiles up at me, pointing to my face.
"You have no idea what's about to happen."
She gets the first shot ready and I just watch my baby smiling from ear to ear. Justin places his hand on my lower back and I look up at him.
Before I know it, Lilia has gotten all three shots. She didn't even cry as much as I thought she would. Just the shock of it scared her, then once the third one was done, she cried for two seconds and was done.
I was actually more scared than her, if you couldn't tell.
"You did it, babe." I say.
"That's it for today. You can schedule another appointment at the front desk. And great job today, little missy." The doctor smiles at Lilia before leaving the room.
"You didn't need me for that." Justin says.
"Honestly, if you weren't here, I probably would've cried. Thank you so much for coming."
"My pleasure. Now I get to take you two out for lunch, right?"
"Sure. That sounds fun and delicious."
I put Lilia's clothes back on before we leave the room.
After making an appointment for Lilia's nine months appointment, me and Justin leave the building. On the walk to our cars, he mentions something about a restaurant that he wants to take me and Lilia to for lunch.
I have no idea where it is so he tells me to just follow him or use my phone. I choose to follow him because I'm just difficult like that.
Once Lilia is safely buckled into her car seat, I get in the front and turn on my car. I follow Justin all the way to the restaurant, which takes about ten minutes to get to from where we were.
12:34 pm
"Two adults? Do we need a kids menu for her?" The waitress, Jasmin, asks.
"Nope. Not old enough just yet." Jasmin smiles, taking out two menus and leading us to a booth by the window.
We sit down and she takes our drink orders before leaving us with the menus and walking away.
"Get anything you want. I don't care how much it costs."
"I have my own money, you know?"
"I'm sure you do, but I'm paying for you today."
"Justin, you don't have to."
"But I'm going to, and nothing you can say will change that."
"Fine. I guess I'll allow it."
"Good, because there wasn't a choice in that situation." He says and I shake my head, laughing.
I find what I want on the menu while Justin makes silly faces at Lilia. He already knew what he wanted because he got the same thing every time.
"She can get something too, if she wants." He says.
"Hmm, I don't think so. She wouldn't eat it. She just ends up eating my food, anyways."
"Oh, that's nice. For her, anyways."
"Yeah, not so much for me."
"I'll get you something extra, if you want."
"No, that's okay. I don't eat a lot, anyways."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. But thanks."
"Of course."
Me and Justin tell each other about ourselves, pausing to tell the waitress what we want to eat, then continuing.
1:44 pm
"That was delicious. Thank you for bringing me here, Justin."
"No problem at all. I had to share this amazing-ness with the world. Not a lot of people know about it."
"Really? I'm surprised."
"I am too."
The waitress brings Justin back his credit card, meaning we can leave. I pick up Lilia and we leave the restaurant. It was definitely time for a nap. She was whining for the past 15 minutes for no reason except that she's tired.
She'll definitely be asleep on the way home. Hopefully she doesn't get sick from the shot. She always does so I don't know why it would be different this time. I just hope and pray that she doesn't get sick, no matter how many times she does.
Justin walks me to my car and watches while I put Lilia in her car seat.
"Bye-bye, sweet girl." Justin waves and she smiles before going back to crying.
I close the door and turn to look at Justin.
"Thanks again, for lunch. And for coming with me to the appointment."
"No problem, again. Have a good rest of your day, Dimples." I hug Justin and he hugs me back before we both go to get in our cars.
I wish we could spend a little more time together, but if Lilia didn't get a nap soon, I would regret it.
