Timbuktu - Africa, early 2007:
In small room somewhere in a middle of a Savannah. Sawada laid his back against a hard couch in a small office. The temperature was beyond control. He let his bare chest to get some refreshing wind blowing from a fan next to him, he was sweating all over. It was a week before he departed back to Japan. Finally, all of his tasks were ended. He was happy he would be able to help those people around him. His plan when he reached back Japan was to continue his study in university. He finally managed to convince himself to study law. Following his dad's footsteps.
"Have you applied to the school you were about to take?" Asked a guy named Billy.
"Yes, I have. As soon as I get home, I'd visit the place and asked more information about the scholarship they had offered." Said Sawada confidently.
" that's good." Billy smiled.
"Wish you all the good luck " said Billy.
"Thank you," Sawada replied.
He put back his T-shirt on, and grabbed his jacket when he suddenly heard his phone ringing. It was another call from her sister. The last time she called was two weeks beforehand. He stood up and picked up the phone.
"Mosh mosh," sawada answered the phone in a low tone. His other hand was full holding his jacketandd backpack for he was about to leave.
"Oniichan, hisashiburi… how are you?" Her voice was a bit different from the last time she called.
"Fine, how's mom and dad?" Asked Sawada back.
"Ahh they're fine. Dad is always busy."
"Yappari," Sawada smirked. But now his relationship with his dad was much better than when he was in high school.
"How about you?" Asked Sawada back.
"I'm good…" Natsumi lowered her voice then paused.
"Natsumi… are you sure you're okay?" Sawada frowned his eyebrows. His heart suddenly beat faster than usual.
"I'm fine oniichan… I just miss you…" there's a sniff he heard from the phone.
"It's been almost five years…" Natsumi continued, her voice was a bit shaky, she sniffed once in a while, which could be heard clearly by his brother.
"Don't worry, I'll be back soon. Pick me up at the airport okay…" replied Sawada. He almost choked up. Somehow He still got this funny feeling. His heart couldn't stop beating fast.
"See you oniichan… jyaa… Matta ne,.." Said Natsumi in a very soft voice. Then Sawada heard the click sound from across the continent. She hung up henr phone.
"Something had happened," thought Sawada. The last time she called, her voice sounded happier. He couldn't wait to go home. He loved his job so much. Being a voluntary worker gave him certain ebxperience which was completely new for him. However, after almost five years, his thought and feelings were all went to people he loved back in Japan.
"Shin, don't forget these," said his room mate Billy. Handing him a traditional African robe he gave to Sawada.
"Ah ya! Thank you!" He packed all the things he was going to bring back to Japan.
"That necklace looks pretty," said Billy.
"Yeah, this is for my sister," replied Sawada excitedly.
He held high a bright red stones necklace. There's a bigger stone hanging gracefully as the pendant. It was glittering as the table lamp shone on it.Billy went out, left Sawada alone with all the things he packed. Suddenly he felt that he needed to call her sister. He dialed the number. One time, two times, three times, no answers. Then he decided to dial one more time. Still, no one picked the phone.
He put the phone right next to him, laid down and finally fell asleep. The night was more quiet than before. The sounds of some night insects chirping like a bunch of birds.
Sawada was sound asleep. The suddenly, his phone was ringing. Too bad Sawada didn't hear the sound. Finally, the phone was flickering, somebody left a message in a husky weak.voice.
"Oniichan…" It's a girl's voice. Natsumi was calling. once in a while she sniffed and sniffed and choked. Her voice was so sore that she almost couldn't be heard clearly.
"Oniichan, I really miss you…" then She paused, then continue…
"I wish I could just hug you now…." Then paused again, another sniffing and choking and sobbing was heard.
"I miss you so much…." Then paused… she hung up the phone.
