"Cherry we need to talk," Evena said sternly. She had become a fairy again and were at Zemma's house where none of the guards would hear them. Cherry hugged her tightly and Evena realised she had been so tense. "You've been gone for too many weeks," she whispered. "I'm sorry, i couldn't come but this is what happened," Evena quickly explained to Cherry about the party, skipping the bit about Jay and moving on to the racket her mother made and then the photo.
Cherry took the photo and looked at it closely. "I've seen it before, in the halls of the old Wings that have been closed due to destruction, i can't remember who, her name," Cherry looked deep in thought before Zemma came with boiling tea. Her eyes widen when she saw Evena and dropped the kettle and mugs before running over to her. Evena smiled when Zemma crushed her. "The tea," Evena gasped. "I'm so glad your back, we were worried," Zemma flicked her wrist gently and the tea was back to normal. "Ok so?" Zemma started. "Remember seeing this picture when we were kids?" Cherry asked and Zemma slowly nodded.
"Zayne," Zemma said suddenly. "Wait what?" Evena asked. "He would know, he works there," Cherry shook her head, "Right." Evena sighed. "What's wrong?" they said in unison. "But why would a picture of my mother appear here?" Cherry closed her eyes and whispered something to Zemma who gasped. "What?" Evena asked. "You're mother, what kind of drink does she drink every morning?" Zemma asked slowly, hand over heart. "Um, red cordial, guys what's going on?" Evena was starting to panic.
"Does she ever smile widely?" Cherry asked, her eyes closed. "Um yeh, at other's, I still don't see where this is going!" Evena said, frustrated. "But does she put something in her mouth in mornings and doesn't talk?" Zemma questioned. "Yes, she never talks for a whole hour and takes ages in the bathroom!" Evena sighed. Zemma and Cherry exchanged a glance.
"Do you remember how your dad died?" they asked together. Evena slowly shook her head, "My parents had a huge fight over something stupid, i think it was mum drinking too much cordial and getting a sugar rush or something and then i don't remember. Though I remember my dad hiding mum's cordial and then i went to sleep and the next day my mum told me the next day my father died in a car crash, that's all," Evena's eyes widened.
"But he never left the house!" Evena shivered.
Cherry and Zemma took in a shaky breath, "I think the reason she's being so harsh towards you and staying away from you is....she's trying to protect you."
Evena looked baffled. "From what?"
Cherry held Evena's hands and said darkly, "From Her."
