"let's drive." he said to me as we finished our meal at the local diner.

"what? where?" i said, confused as we were currently on a date.

"i don't care, as long as i'm with you." as sappy as it was, i smiled and he took my hand. we left our money on the table and ran to the car. he blasted the music and we got on the highway and went wherever the next turn was.

we sang for hours, not paying attention to where we were going or our surroundings at all.

we sang every song that came on, if we didn't know one we'd change the station and sing to the next one. we'd laugh every time a song ended and we sang more. every red light we'd share a kiss and keep singing, just kept singing and never stopped.

there was a point in the night, who knows how long, where thomas stopped the car and looked at where we were. turns out we made it to the next state over, and a good chunk in to that one. we parked in an abandoned restaurants parking lot and sat there for a second. the sky was speckled with beautiful stars and one full moon.

"why did we do this?" thomas asks me, chuckling.

i shrugged, "why ask." i smiled at him and he returned it. he took my hand and put it on his leg, still holding it as he drove off, probably back home but i didn't care to ask.

the slow movement of the car turning all the ways we came soothed me as i fell asleep. it was a long night of singing and laughing, and i was exhausted.

i was still driving back home when i felt her hand loose the slight tension it had on my leg. i looked over to see her sleeping in the passenger seat, mouth slightly open and eyes closed. i smiled.

i turned back to the road with huge lights in my eyes. one holler was all it took and they went out in an instant.

•••

an hour later, but so much had happened.

i ended up getting startled awake by what force i don't know, but the damage was over. the car that had hit us was gone and the ringing in my ears suggested it wasnt that long ago. i look over at the first thing that pops in my mind.

her hair was everywhere, in a knotty mess around her head. her eyes were slightly open but i believed she was still asleep. a little stream of blood was flowing down her face. i tried to reach for her but then i realized, she was too far. how could she be too far? she was in the passenger seat...
then i realized more, she wasn't even in the car. somehow she got thrown out of the car, and she was on the hard ground. i reached for my phone and slowly and painfully did what i had too.

i blink out of my memory and find myself still in the hospital. after they took us in they bandaged me up and brought me to the waiting room, with comfy chairs and magazines which i didn't even try to distract myself with. weird enough i was fine, no damage to the body other than a few scrapes and bruises.

y/n on the other hand, well, nobody really knew.

the image of her out of the car stuck in my mind and i knew it wasn't getting out till i saw her face again. i rubbed my face in my hands as tears streaked my cheeks, i barely noticed.

"Mr. Sangster?" Someone said, a little hesitant in her voice.

i jumped up and ran to her, ignoring the pain and exhaustion in my body.

"Sir, please slow down, the doctors say your not fully recovered yet-"

i had no patients to deal with her at that moment.

"is she okay?" i interrupted, for a split second i received a glare for it, but as she must of realized my situation she changed it to a sympathetic one.

"Now, sir, she's going to be just fine," i exhaled and put my head in my hands, "but she is very damaged and will take a while to recover. you will have to be very patient and do a lot for her these next few weeks."

"yes, anything." i said, understanding what i had to do and not complaining one bit. not even inside.

the doctor slightly smiled, "follow me." i had no hesitation.

i followed her to a small room at the end of one of the hallways we went down, i was too much in a daze to count or notice anything. she opened the door.

"now, i wouldn't touch her as she is slowly recovering. hands are okay though." she smiled and nodded at me, but i wasn't looking at her.

in front of me was a bed and blankets covering a body connected to wires and machines. y/n's body.

i groaned slightly as i walked next to her bed and took her hand in mine. i lay my head on the table, and heard the nurse leave.

i woke up an hour later to a small movement under my head. i furrowed my brows as i tried to think of what was under my head. her hand.

i jumped up to see pure joy in the eyes of the girl i loved.

"thomas!" she said as i engulfed her in my arms. she hugged back and laughed.

i got confused again. why were we so happy. i loosened my grasp and sat back down. her smile slowly faded and she must of taken her surrounding in.

"thomas, what are we..." she paused as the breath got caught in her throat, she started to cry, "what are we doing here?" again her voice went out at the end as she finally looked at me. i started to cry too.

"hun, we were in an accident." i said, looking at her hand in mine and squeezing it.

"i'm sorry, tom." she said as she cried more.

i shook my head, "don't be sorry, i was driving. i turned away to look at you. and even though we were on a skinny one-way street, someone came and hit us. probably drunk or not paying attention but... don't apologize." i stopped myself from rambling and rubbed her fingers. finally looked back up at her.

her tears were gone and she began to chuckle. i smiled slightly, feeling guilty for it.

"what?" i said, adoring her beautiful laugh.

"oh tom..." she said, now taking my hand in hers, she chuckled again before saying, "why did we do that?" i was confused on why she wasn't sad that she was in a hospital or almost died for that matter, but i didn't want to ruin her mood.

i shrugged and smiled more, "why ask?" i kissed her cheek and she smiled even more.

"tom?" she looked up at me.

"hmm?" i said, looking up at her.

"let's drive."
