RIN’s POV

“How could have you failed a test for the first time?! Your teacher called last night and I’m very much disappointed!” Here goes my father.

He found out from my teacher that I failed Math I. Great. As much as I’ve kept it a secret for 3 days, my teacher ended my agony by adding salt to it.

“I-I’m sorry. Neither I did not want for this to ever happen Appa.” I said while sitting on the floor in front of him the traditional way.

“I know. But you should have been careful. I don’t want you to fail on anything. I have expected a lot from you but you’ve failed to meet my expectations this time.” Dad said in a serious tone. “If you can’t ace on your final exams in Math then I assume I’d have to ground you from your activities.”

“Appa! That’s not fair!” I shouted at him.

“My decision is final. And if I get to see you slouching off, you won’t be able to get outside this house, nor hang out with your friends.”

“Honey, that would be too much.” Mom suddenly interrupted.

“Omma!” I ran to her and embraced her.

“Don’t worry, I’ve arranged with someone to tutor you in Math!” She said happily.

“Jinjja? But I can actually study well if I like… why would I—“

“He’s coming in a bit so you must study hard!” She said merrily and I feel like somehow she’s plotting something again.

“Omma…”

The doorbell suddenly rang and omma opened the gate for the visitor. I sat on the sofa and started reading a magazine.

“I’m sorry if I made you wait ommoni.” That familiar voice again.

I looked at the visitor who just came in.

“What is he doing in our house omma?!” I exclaimed in surprise.

Could it be that…

“Darling, starting today, Marcus will be tutoring you in Math!” And a wide grin appeared on both their faces.

We went upstairs to my old room that I’ve vacated for about a month now. But since I have this dilemma going on, dad wont allow me to go back in my own house, not unless I pass my final exams the coming week.

Marcus sat comfortably on my bed.

“Such a fluffy bed. How could you leave such a cute room.” He said while roaming his eyes around the room.

“It’s not that I left it, but rather I just wanted to be independent.” I said and he patted the space next to him to let me sit.

I sit next to him obediently, but then my heart started to beat irregularly without my knowledge.

He opened an Algebra I book and asked me, “So, what do you fing hard about Algebra?” but I just stared at him while he flip the pages of the book.

“Hey, are you listening to me?” He said and then stared at me but I didn’t even budge.

He waved a hand in front of me but I just bit my lips and moved my stare from his eyes to his lips. His lips.

“Are you okay?” He asked and then suddenly I was out of my trance.

“Uh-uhmmm… of course I’m okay.” I answered him and just stared back at his lips.

But why am I even attracted to those?
