MARCUS’s POV

How is it possible that Rin Lee lives next door?

Could she be the same girl from 9 years ago?!

And to be exact. That incident was 9 years ago, and now this girls turns up at school 9 years later.

Weird.

“Marcus, dinner’s ready.” My mom called.

I sat up on my bed as she called me and then I went out after her.

“Mom…”

“Hmmmm?” She said while going down the stairs.

“The girl next door—“ I was about to open the topic on Rin when mom suddenly interrupted and said,

“Oh, did you meet her already?!” she said excitedly.

“Yup. At school.” I said.

Mom faced me and then held both of my hands so excitedly.

What’s with her now?

“So, she’s going to the same school again?!” She asked again.

“I think so? Was she from my school?”

“Did she recognize you? Did she—“

“MOM! What’s with you now?! Why are you asking so many questions about her?!” I said quite exasperated that mom acts like this.

She then let go of my hands and her smiling face turned serious.

“Isn’t that girl the daughter of the Lee Family? She was your classmate way back from 3rd grade right? And as far as I know, she just came back here after 9 years. Isn’t it great?!” She explained and then smiled at me brightly.

“Mom… are you stalking her? And how come you knew about that?”

“Connections dear. I have that. So, I know.” She said and then she started going down the stairs.

“Tomorrow, don’t forget to go home early. Leave your schedule free. I’ll let you meet someone.”

“But, mom.  Are you trying to set me up with a girl again?!” I shouted but she’s now nowhere to be seen.

She’s at it again. How can my mom just decide for me. I’m already 18, and yet she still controls my life.

I sat on the stairs and then pondered about how I will escape tomorrow.

RIN’s POV

Since getting to our classroom, I kept thinking of what mom said to me last night.

“Mom, is the kid living across our house the same kid from 9 years ago?” I asked while wiping the wet dishes that mom washed.

“Hmmm… You mean Marcus? of course. He is. They never left the house. Why’d you ask?”

“Nothing much. It’s just that he’s in the same class as me too. For some reason, when I saw him there I thought I’ve seen him somewhere before.”

So he really is that ‘kid’.

“Ah… well isn’t he in the same class as you from 3rd grade?”

Yeah. That bully.

“Ah-huh.” I said and then cursed under my breath, “He’s the reason why I left.”

“Did you say something?” Mom asked. Oops.

“Nope. N-none. I said none.”
