Holly
In the morning I wake up late which isn't unusual for me, I've never been one to wake up early even the days I went to school. I would get up last minute and only have time for breakfast before going to school. It probably didn't help that I went to bed late either, I can't sleep when it's light.
After I dressed I headed downstairs for breakfast. In the kitchen food was lay out everywhere, it looked so good. My stomach rumbled loudly.
"I guess someone's hungry," a sweet voice came from behind me. I turned to face the voice. A red head stood behind me. "I'm Carley."
"Nice to meet you," I smiled back at her.
"Nice to meet you too, new girl."
"Sorry! I'm Holly."
"That's cool. So why you here?"
I think for a moment before answering. "Same reason as everybody else."
"Right. Anyway I got to get going if I'm going to reach class in time. See ya."
"Bye!" I called back.
I turned to the food laid out. I could literally eat anything at the moment. I grab the bread and popped it into the toaster. While I wait for it to toast I cut up slices of cheese. Yum.
I don't know how many slices of toast I have before I'm full but I know it's a lot. I also had some bacon as well, I have been craving bacon for weeks. I love food.
After breakfast I head up to my room. As I'm about to open my bedroom door, the door across from me opens. Out comes a tall, unnatural blonde girl. "Hey I'm Alyssa," she said when she saw me.
"I'm Holly. Do you live here?" I asked her.
"No, I just spent the night with my boyfriend Ollie. We haven't had sex in a while."
That name reminds me of this summer. I really wish we did things differently, maybe I wouldn't be in this situation right now. "Oh right. Remember to use protection."
"He's never forgotten before, it’s not like I'm suddenly going to become pregnant."
"You'd be surprise how sudden it can be," I told her truthfully.
"Okay. Well I got to go," she said before stalking down the hall.
I head inside my room. I wish everything was different. I have been here one day and I already missed my mom and my twin sister. We never hung out much because we had different friendship groups but when we were at home together we had a laugh and teased each other.
It suddenly hits me, I may never see them again. I feel the tears at the back of my eyes. Everything that has happened to me in the past few months has been my fault. I'm so stupid for being naive.
If my summer boy hadn't changed his number I would have told him about it. Maybe I wouldn't be here. Maybe he would have help me. But no he disappeared leaving to fend of myself. If I ever see him again I don't know what I'll do.
Now I need a job, I need money. I head out into the town. There are so many little shops and cafes, it's really is beautiful. Most of the cafes face the sea which hits the sand softly. I could stay here forever.
I walk along the coast until I come to a sweet little coffee shop. I go inside, at the counter is surprisingly Olivia. She smiled at happily.
"Hey Holly!" she said. "What you doing here?"
"I'm looking for a job."
"Oh good. They need more people here. Sara should be back in few minutes, she just went to the toilet."
"Okay. So do you work here?" I asked her.
"No. I was just grabbing a coffee, Sara asked me to manage the counter for a few minutes," she told me.
Soon enough an older women exits the back room. "Hey I'm Sara, how can I help you?" she said sweetly. Her black hair is tied up in a French plait and she had a wide smile.
"I'm looking for a job," I told her. "I was wondering if you had any vacancies.
"Perfect, I'm hiring at the moment. Have you had any previous experience?"
"Yeah I work in a cafe all last year."
"How long would you like the job for?"
"Um... I'm not sure, I guess as long as possible."
"Tell me about yourself?"
"Um... I'm Holly. I'm seventeen. I am hard working, committed, I love a challenge and I guess I like a little fun in the work place."
"You'll fit in just right. Where do you live?" I look towards Olivia who is still behind the counter with Sara. "Oh I get it. I think I'll hire you. You seem like a nice girl."
"When can I start?" I asked. I needed to start as soon as possible.
"Whenever you're ready."
"Can I start now?"
"Yeah that's perfect."
I get to work straight away. Its a lot of fun. Around three I see the girl from this morning come in, Carley. She joins me behind the counter and we work well together. We share the costumers equally and both receive tips from some.
"So do you have a boyfriend?" she suddenly asked me when there were little costumers.
"No. Do you?"
"I don't know, I really like this guy but I'm unsure if he likes me back. We've hung out a few times with friends, we've even kissed at a few times."
"Sex?"
"Only once. It was my first time, it was amazing," she told me. I know exactly how she's feeling. "He was spooning me in the morning as well. I'm so confused. Help me!"
"Uh...I'm not sure how to help you exactly. I'm not a pro with boys. The only guy I've ever liked ditched me after a summer of fun, he called for one month after but then changed his number."
"I'm sorry. Boy are so stupid, they don't realise when we like them. All they're interested in is sex."
"I know." I lift my and up for a high five. "Anyway, I think you should talk to this guy, there is a good chance that he likes you back but if not screw him, you've got me now."
"Thanks Holly, you are amazing. I think we're going to be great friends."
"Yeah we are. You know Carley you can come to me about anything, I'm not going to judge you."
"Same to you," she smiled at me.
Later that evening when we headed home, Carley gave me a drive and we chatted more about everything. She was really great. I am glad to have met her.
