Holly
Oh god, oh god. Ollie was being too sweet yesterday, I almost blurted out that I loved him a few times when we were in the kitchen. I'm glad he's taking Jamie out today, I need girl time. Yesterday I emailed my mum for the first time in and year and a half. Half way through the email I burst into tears, just thinking about her. I missed her so much.
In the email I told her where I was and that I had a surprise for her if she came and visit. I needed to tell her about Jamie, she needed to know she was a grandmother. I’m so grateful that she emailed me back about an hour later telling me that she was going to come the next day. Now I was excited and nervous for her arrival.
“Ollie, my mom’s coming today,” I told Ollie when we woke up earlier this morning.
“Ok, baby.” He took my hand in his and squeezed it tightly. “Are you sure you want to see her?”
“Yeah I am, I want her to know about Jamie.”
“So you still want me to take him out today?”
“Yeah if you could, I’d like to tell her before she sees him for herself.”
“Ok, I’ll be taking him out about half ten, we’ll probably be back around three.”
“I think that’ll be long enough. Is Jake going with you?”
“Yeah he will be. We thought it would a good idea to have some guy time.”
“Cool,” I told him climbing out of bed. I changed into nice clothes so I looked good for my mother. Ollie changed into casual jeans and t shirt before getting Jamie dressed as well. We went down to breakfast together as a family, both of us took turns in feeding Jamie, with his mashed up food.
“I’ll see you later,” Ollie called out as he left around half ten with Jamie, Jake and his daughter.
Once they had left I felt my nerves set in, I decided to clean my room: it had collected in rubbish since Ollie had been home. Soon enough it was clean and the beds made.
It had been an hour since Ollie had left, he had texted ten minutes ago saying that everything would be okay but now I felt my pulse beating loudly against the skin on my neck and wrists and my heart thudding against my ribs. Seconds pass knowing Mom could be here in minutes or less.
As the clock stroked half elven I heard a car driving up the driveway and take sudden stop by the front door. I took a deep breath knowing it was Mom. The car door slammed loudly, followed by a crunch across the gravel to the front door.
The doorbell rang.
I was so nervous. Steadily I walked to the front door, I took a deep breath to calm myself and opened it wide. There stood my beautiful mother. She looked the exact same as she did a year and a half ago, her dark hair fell to her waist even though some was clipped up with a large clip. Her colourful skirt reached the floor but outlined her slim waist and the strap top she was wearing highlighter her soft shoulders. "Mom," I whispered looking at her.
"Holly," she shouted back, “You are so grounded when we get home.” She grabbed my arm and tried to pull me out of the house.
“Stop Mom! I’m not coming back with you, I want to stay here. My life is here,” I told her truthfully, a little hurt that she didn’t take any of my feelings into account.
“What do you mean your life is here?”
“I have a job, I have friends, and I have a guy I really like,” I said missing out the part about Jamie. “I want you to meet them before you make any judgements on them.”
“God Holly, you’re still as persuasive as you were back home,” she said pulling me in close to her. "God I've missed you. I told your sister to wait in the car; do you want to get her?"
"Yeah Mom, I want to see her too." I missed my little sister, at one point she was my best friend, and we use to do everything for each other. Before she had a chance to stop me I ran to the familiar car and see my beautiful sister. She looked so much older now, a real young woman, even though she was only sixteen years old. I've missed her too. I hugged her tightly. I felt tears fall down my face fast. “I’ve missed you so much Annie. Come in," I sniffed.
They followed me inside. We walked upstairs to my room. I opened the door wide and showed them the room. They looked over everything from the made bed to the blue walls and the baby cot that sat in the corner. “This is my room.”
"Holly!" they exclaimed together.
"What's that?" Mom pointed to the cot.
"It’s a cot for babies,” I said not telling them the whole truth.
“Why do you have a cot in your room?”
I had to tell them the truth now. “I... I... well I kind of have a son," I said slowly.
"You have a son?" Mom asked with a look of shock on her face, "Since when?"
"I had him about ten months ago; he is beautiful you'll love him."
“Oh god!” Mom exclaimed. “Who’s the father?”
“A guy I was seeing almost two years ago.”
"Does they boy you like know you have a son?"
"He's the father, Mom."
"Does he know that he has a son?"
"Yes, he's been so supportive with everything. He took Jamie out today to the park. I love him so much,” oh shit I didn’t mean to blurt that out.
“You love him.”
“Yeah Mama, I love him but he doesn’t love me because he had a girlfriend and every time I see them together it breaks my heart.”
"When is this boy supposed to come back?"
"Sometime this afternoon," I said. "He really loves Jamie; he's been so good to both of us. I just want to be with him."
"I'm sure you do." Mom hugged me tightly. She stoked my hair as I cried against her chest. “I love you sweetheart.”
For the rest of the afternoon, before Ollie comes home, we talk about everything, from why I left to now. I leave out the part about Dad because he should be the one to tell the truth.
Around three in the afternoon my bedroom door opened. Ollie stood there, holding Jamie, with the brightest smile on his face I've ever seen. "Hey I'm Ollie," he said looking at Mom and my sister. "And this is Jamie."
"Nice to meet you Ollie," Mom smiled surprisingly. "So you're the father?"
"Yes I am. I love him more than I can ever know. I can't wait to have more kids," Ollie smiled truthfully, surprisingly.
"Are you saying you'll get my daughter pregnant again?" Mom questioned.
"Maybe depends on how life works out. But I would like to have another child."
"Can I hold him?" my sister asked climbing off the bed.
"Sure, can you be careful though," Ollie said handing him over.
"I will be, I don’t want to drop my nephew the first time I hold him,” Anna laughed. “Oh I'm Anna by the way, Holly's sister. He's so cute."
