VINCENT: My father, due to his incredible wealth he had inherited from our family lineage was able to convince the government that he had good intentions for the island.

He even said he would even allocate resources to making the island a form of a tourist site. Of course, it sounded good to the government so within a month they allowed our family to move into the island.

There were rules that we were given which mainly involved the felling of trees. We were to either import wood for our house or in the event of an emergency we were to cut only a few trees, no more than twenty pine trees and immediately replant after.

In all honesty, father was truly dedicated to maintaining the beauty of the forest. He understood the importance of preserving nature.

He always told us that it wouldn't be some extra-terrestrial force or even us that would be the downfall of man but themselves especially if they kept being irresponsible of their actions and repercussions.

Our mansion has sixteen bedrooms, nine bathrooms, one large pool and a mini-pool close by, two kitchens and two main lounges.

We own a total of twelve Rottweiler, all bred to kill intruders and ten rotating guards who patrol the house day and night-yes the guards as well are vampires.

Oh yeah, our dogs too were vampires...long story but my father managed to obtain them a millennia ago.

Behind the house are a basketball court, a tennis court, and a golf park. Father owns a total of seven Benz cars all which were the latest in the model and matte black. Mother owns three cars, she is more diverse and so her variety of car models have bright colors.

Now, back to the story...

Today is my birthday I received my second car, another Porsche-nothing changed. Life here was one big cycle that provided nothing exhilarating.

I glanced out my room window at the compound filled with guards.

Today was supposed to be the day I finally enrolled in a school after years of being home-schooled. In actual fact, it was a sort of surprise for the family that my father even agreed to the thought of one of his children leaving the safe confines of the house.

I knew something must've influenced his decision but I didn't ask because I knew I wouldn't get the answer anyway.

In my room was a musical score from Beethoven being played from a speaker. Beethoven was well admired by both mother and father and I guess I also fell in love with his music.

Such intricate melodies that could reach out and pull you from the darkest pits of despair to happiness or sadden you deeply to almost the point of considering suicide.

It was a testament to his gifts.

I glanced out my window at the guards walking about in the front yard and resumed reading my book until I heard a knock.

''Vincent'' came a familiar voice outside my room door, I opened it and saw my mother Eve Peville approach me with a sad smile.

''Mother'' I greeted bluntly.

She looked as beautiful as she had always looked especially with her green eyes that had an indescribable radiance to it and her round and pink-cheeked face. Her long thick black hair swung to and fro next to her waist till she pulled them back.

''Have you packed?'' she asked as she sat down on my bed.

I smiled briefly, ''I am not a child mother, you know I did''

Eve rose an eyebrow, ''Boris was here last night'' she said with a wolfish grin.

I couldn't fool my mother; she always knew when I was lying which proves the fact that motherhood exists even amongst our kind. I sat down next to her and looked with her at my room. We didn't say anything, we didn't really have to but after a while, she held my palm tight,'' Be safe Vincent'' she said softly.
