ALLAN: Of course they saw the vase crashing down and I prayed fervently that they'd not notice me.

Silence...nothing but silence, well I mean from the two.

I slowly opened my eyes and moved as quietly as possible away from the source of the sound and stayed put. I couldn't risk moving or running away, I'd be spotted in no time...I just had to remain still.

''Must be another monkey, I tell you they have been causing all sorts of problems lately'' came Haier's voice followed by slurping.

I sighed, that was a close call, ''Anyway I have something for you'' Haier said as he removed from his robe a small black box.

''I got it last night, from the latest shipments and thought you'd like it'' he handed the box to the glob and the creature took it, the box sank slowly into its mucus like hand and became stationary after a while.

I gave an appalled face as the creature opened the box and in it were huge cockroaches...at least they looked like those insects.

''Straight from the hidden cities of the Orcs, you wouldn't find Jix-Beetles of that size anywhere else. I heard the magical climate there makes them grow bigger, theories even say their lifespan increases'' Haier grinned and I watched as the beast slowly picked two of the huge insects.

I suddenly felt nauseous as I struggled to maintain my composure.

Come on Allan, you've seen worse...not really, not really.

I wanted to tear my eyes away but the Meroe in me resisted, it was something a growing boy had to witness and the blob opened its mouth and flung them in. The creature closed its slime of a mouth and chewed...did it even have teeth or bones?

''Its nice isn't it?'' Haier laughed joyfully, ''Praise Osiris for nature's gift, more shipments from the outside world should be coming soon''

I listened with a little grin, so they were definitely coming.

The blob began talking to Haier and as it spoke bits of the insects were revealed, all crushed and their white entrails mixing with the beast's slime. I could feel a voice in my head taunting me:

Yeah Allan, watch those white lumps mixed with insect legs get crushed and mixed with that green jelly...

''No, no, no'' I shook my head as I left the horror scene...this was too much. I didn't care if Haier spotted me as I ran and leaped unto the next building but there was no shout from him...I was in the clear.

The moment my feet touched the next roof, a sharp pain seized my ankle and I held in a yelp.

I looked back, the jump was indeed a wide one and I barely noticed. It was obvious I nearly lost my footing during that jump and if I hadn't stretch when I did I'd probably have fallen and injured myself.

I looked at the market and thought happy thoughts.

''Never again'' I said to myself as I looked at people moving quickly ''I'd rather drink Yivul's special drinks.''

I looked about me, everyone was doing something and seemed to be in a rush, that was the normal routine in this place. I surveyed the whole city, my eyes scanned the area until it finally landed on my target- Moab, one of the most crooked dealers in the whole city.

He had committed a number of illegal activities but always evaded justice no doubt be had someone he was bribing.  He had over the years successfully smuggled humans and other beings to sell them. The first time I ever discovered his business I hated to see him win and for as long as I could remember I'd been disrupting his business.

It was in all honesty, very thrilling to mess up Moab's sales though I know if he ever caught me it'd be my last even if I was the son of a renowned individual.

I made sure not to be spotted as I slid down the roof of the building I was on and just as I reached the edge I jumped unto the next roof. I made a slight sound as I landed on the next building and luckily no one seemed to notice me.

I loved that rush of breath air and sense of freedom as I landed on roof after roof...this is what I lived for.

I made my way across more houses till I knew I was close enough to the area Moab was normally known to show up. It was the port that the mummy always made his best entrances, right next to the river that led out of the city to the outside world.

I always wondered how the river found itself into the city and why I was never allowed to take a boat on the river out.

I watched as several ships streamed towards the port, only a few were the modern models, most were the ancient looking ones from The Golden Age of Piracy.

It looked magical, all those ships arriving on the large lake that reflected the multi-colored sky above littered with stars.

"We are here lads!" came a bellow. It was from the pirates of a ship.

"Land ho!" came the response from the mates "We be at the Black market of the dead, ye know what that means?"

"Money! Rum! Women!" Came Several cries from different ships as the men began offloading several boxes.

"We be sure to make a fortune today lads" a man boomed near the mast. He stood next to the steering wheel and looked like the captain.

His tri-cornered hat made of leather had a skull symbol in front, I think the hat was called a Monmouth cap. His black and gold doubles matched his hat though from where I stood, I could barely see his face.

"Hard to port!we be making a killing today lads" he ordered as his crew ran about. Their old way of talking hadn't changed much which made them even cooler.

The pirates were mummies as well, they lived during the age of pirates and were quite fixated on the old way of life.

Pirate mummies. How cooler can that get?

None of them wore modern clothes like us but it didn't stop them from using modern weapons of this era

None of them wore modern clothes like us but it didn't stop them from using modern weapons of this era. The bottom line of these adventurers was that they always traveled the outside world, hiding in plain sight thanks to their magic.

"Lucky" I grimaced.

My whole life I've been in this city. So unfair.

My father made sure I never attempted to go out into the human world despite my pleadings, anger, sadness. Basically, every frustrated emotion thrown at my dad was futile, he wouldn't budge like the stubborn parent he always was.

''It's here!'' a voice said.

I spotted a couple of my kids all clamoring to see what next Moab had to offer that was sure to be a spectacle, a never seen before item or creature which was definitely bad news...now that I had made it to my target.
