Thursday 4th September
I sat on the side of the counter, swinging my legs back and forth as i watched Luke taking the next order from the customer. It was kind of cute actually, watching him work. Well, no, that sounds terrible when i put it that way. But it's more to the fact that, everything he does is so inhumanly awkward, that its cute watching him interact with customers so freely, when i can tell that he's nervous because he bites down on his lip ring before speaking.
"You know Charlotte, its extremely rude to stare." Luke commented as he handed the last customer of the day, his order. I jumped down from the counter and began walking towards the staff room.
"Yes i know that Luke, but i wasn't staring, i was simply observing." i shrugged before falling back onto the staff room couch. I looked up at Luke who was slowly dragging his feet in exhaustion before dropping himself next to me on the couch.
"Observing?" Luke breathed a small laugh and i nodded in reply.
"Today for example, i observed that you run your fingers threw your hair when you're tired." I pointed out just as he ran his fingers threw his hair, causing the both of us to laugh. "And you do this weird thing with your feet when you're bored." I smiled slightly. "And last, i observed-" i paused for a moment and turned to face him, to see his bright blues eyes already set on me. I suddenly felt this wash of nervousness hit me as my cheeks tinted slightly pink. "-um.. That you do this thing were you um, bite your lip ring, when your anxious, or nervous." I managed to finish my sentence without stuttering too much and dropped my gaze from his eyes to the ground. "Its how you get to know people Luke, by observing." I pursed my lips slightly and nodded to myself.
"Oh, you mean like how you stutter when you feel nervous or pressured?" Luke interjected and furrowed my eyebrows as i kept my gaze locked on the floor. "And how you mess with your hands so that you have something to pre-occupy your mind with?" I could hear the smirk in his voice as i realised i was fumbling with my fingers at this very moment. I blushed slightly before placing my hands down flat on my lap. "And last, the way you bite on your lip when you feel self conscious, which is ridiculous because you have nothing to be self conscious about." He began rambling and i breathed a small laugh.
"Okay, okay." I sighed in response before i finally lifted my head and locked my eyes with his. "I get your point." i cracked a tiny smile so it was barely visible. I never realised how incredibly close we were until now. I watched as his eyes flickered from my lips and back to my eyes, causing me to smile in response. I felt myself slowly leaning in, and i saw Luke move in as well, his lips teasingly brushed against mine, forcing a smile upon my face. I leant in closer and felt the heat radiating from him and- i heard the door bell ring and groaned in response before pulling away from Luke. I blushed as the realisation hit me, of what almost, sort of, kind of just happened. I panicked slightly and shuffled away from Luke before deciding to check who had came into the cafe. I stood up from the couch and headed to the staff room door, i peaked my head out like i had the night before. My jaw dropped as i saw the, 6ft, dark haired boy standing at the counter waiting to be served. I rolled my eyes before revealing myself from behind the door.
"We close at 10. Why do you feel the need to come afterwards." I groaned as i walked over to the counter, a smirk slowly growing on his face.
"Because i know it annoys you." He smirked and i rolled my eyes in response.
"We're closed, as i told you yesterday, i can't serve you, i'm sorry." I said as politely as i possibly could but i was again found myself in the same position as the night before. Calum just stood there with a smug look on his face, it took everything i had in me to not slap the smirk of his face.
"Oh come on baby? Not even me?" He pouted slightly but he still managed to have the stupid smirk on his face. I rolled my eyes and scoffed at him before leaning close to him, with only the counter between us.
"Especially you." I snapped before leaning back to my original position. "Now, could you please leave." I retorted and plastered a sweet, yet fake, smile upon my face. He shook his head whilst breathing a laugh.
"Look sweetheart, i came here to find my friend." He gritted threw his teeth, finally dropping the smirk from his face. "So have you seen him?" He asked, showing that he was clearly growing impatient. I folded my arms over my chest and smirked. Now i had the upper hand.
"And if i had, why would i tell you?" I scoffed and he rolled his eyes.
"Luke, Luke Hemmings, freakishly tall, blue eyes, blonde hair, dresses kind of like me?" He questioned, deciding to completely ignore my smart remark.
"Hey Charlotte i got to get going, Calu-" I heard Luke speak from beside me as he walked out of the staff room. He stopped mid-sentence as he looked up from his phone and saw Calum. "Oh hey mate, i was just on-" Luke began to speak but was rudely interrupted by Calum.
"Don't 'mate' me." Calum snapped and i raised my eyebrows in a sort of 'well then' look. "Ash, Mike and I have been looking all day for you." He growled, i'm assuming that Mike and Ash where the other members of their band.
"I know i'm sorr-"
"Bullshit." Calum scoffed. "You just couldn't keep your hands off her could you." Calum shook his head, and for a split second i could have sworn that Calum actually looked hurt, but it quickly turned back to anger.
"What? Wait is she? Dude i didn't know i swear." Luke said guiltily and walked out from behind the counter towards Calum. "You didn't tell me her name, i assumed it was just some girl." Luke pleaded and Calum just shot him daggers.
"Fuck it. Come on, Ash and Mike are gonna kill you." Calum replied keeping a straight face. Wait, so what was Luke talking about? Luke nodded in reply before turning to face me. He plastered on a small smile in which i returned. Luke opened his mouth to say something but before he could, Calum interjected. "Now Luke." He said sternly. Luke gave me an 'i'm sorry' look before walking over to the cafe door, he opened it and walked out as he waited outside for Calum.
"Okay... What was that about?" I questioned, now completely forgetting that only minutes ago i was begging him to leave. I don't even know why i'm being semi-nice to him, he doesn't deserve it. But i don't know... I just feel like there was something more behind what Luke was saying to him. I feel like, Calum, deep down, like, way, way, way, deep down, is a half decent guy. But he just puts on this jerky kind of front, which is really just douchey and needs to stop. I think there is more behind Calum, and i'm determined to find out what it is.
"None of your business." He snapped, i raised my eyebrows and took a small step back at the harshness of his words.
"Jesus, sorry." I mumbled more to myself.
"Whatever, i better get back to that idiot before he runs off again." He rolled his eyes and i nodded. "Cya Char." He cracked a small smile. I froze and my eyes widened. One. how did he even know my name. And two. If he calls me Char again I'll kill him.
"Don't call me Char." i groaned and he smirked in response.
"Whatever you say baby." he winked and began walking backwards towards the door before turning, opening the door and walking out. I rolled my eyes as he was now back to his stupidly obnoxious self. Maybe its not a front. Maybe he really is a douche.
