Pain

I wasn't sure what happened, there was a lot of them around us and I heard him scream a blood-curdling scream. I turn around quickly to see Gabriel with his six wings exposed, my mouth gaped open to see them burning. I ran over to him when I saw him fall to the ground hard, the pain too overbearing for him to stand.

"SAM MAKE IT STOP! IT HURTS PLEASE!" Gabriel screamed and writhed, he was curled into himself and arching his back out. He was shaking and shivering, crying and screaming in agony. I didn't know what to do but he was begging for it to go away, I looked around for Castiel he might've known what to do.

"CAS!" I screamed and I heard his wings flutter behind me, his face was in pure shock at the man balled up on the ground. Castiel put his hand on Gabriel's shoulder and Gabriel's screaming became very scattered breaths, I crouched next to him and tried to console him.

"Breathe it's okay," I swallowed, "I'm here. We're here and I'll- I'll protect you." It felt weird to say it out loud, so I stuttered. Tears rolled down my face watching someone be in that much pain, his face was buried in his knees as he jerked his body. He was crying hard and his screaming had fully subsided as Castiel helped him heal, Castiel couldn't bring his wings back though he could only help the pain.

"This is all I can do," Castiel said and retracted his hand, "take him to the bunker. Watch over him until me and Dean are able to get back." I nodded and picked him up bridal style being careful not to touch his back, he was covered in blood and I knew a lot of it was his. We finally got there and it was silent, my eyes still flooded with tears. I picked him back up and took him to a bathroom, I set him on the floor and he watched me in silence as I filled the bath with water. I made sure it wasn't too hot or cold, I looked at him and tipped him a sad smiled.

"Can you get up at all?" I ask him and he tries to stand, he's shaky and his eyes start to tear up again. I rush to his side and help him up and he takes deep, long breaths.

"I'm really sorry if this is awkward but I really need to help you," I try to laugh and lighten up a bit. Nothing but it was okay I understood his silence and his upset expression. He sat down on the sink, he couldn't stand too long without wavering and threatening to fall. He was silent the whole time which was odd for me because he always tried to talk, crack a joke, anything. I unbuttoned his shirt and slid it off his shoulders, I made sure he couldn't see it when I tossed it to the side because it was so soaked in his own blood it made me choke back a sob. He swallowed and took a labored breath, I put my hands on his shoulders and rubbed them gently to try and relax him.

"It isn't hard for you to breathe is it?" I asked him softly and he mouthed the word 'no'.

"Just making sure everything's okay," I said and looked at his hair. It was matted and bloodied, covered in dirt and grime and it made me uneasy to remember the usual golden locks that laid there.

"Can you do the rest yourself?" I ask awkwardly and he nodded, I wasn't sure how I'd feel removing his clothes entirely. Who would honestly unless it was needed?

"Okay," I said and stepped away from him. I didn't watch him but when he was done I still had to pick him up and set him the water, goosebumps formed on his skin and I was worried he was uncomfortable. I sat on the floor next to him and I swallowed nervously, I didn't know what to do or how to help him at all.

"Tell me if anything is wrong at all," I told him and he nodded. I used a towel to clean off his back, being careful not to touch the huge gashes that ripped down the length of his upper back. I remembered when he showed us all his wings, there were 3 pairs of them and they were golden and glowed with warmth. The most beautiful things I had ever seen, I could merely gawk at them and they were bigger than I had anticipated since he was so small himself. I thought about it as I washed all the blood and dirt off of him, the water turning dark gross colors because a shower would hurt him quite a bit I assumed. His eyes were closed and he was still crying, he looked exhausted and defeated while sitting there silently with his knees to his chest.
