Severus and Lily

September 9, 1973

In the outside courtyard, SEVERUS and LILY walk together to their Divination class.

SEVERUS: How do you like Divination so far?

LILY: (shrugging) It seems like a rather abstract branch of magic. Not really what I'm used to.

SEVERUS: I think it's fascinating so far.

LILY: (gazing at him) How's everything else going?

SEVERUS: Fine. Why?

LILY: I just mean- the whole thing on the train-

SEVERUS: Yeah, whatever. Potter's a jerk.

LILY: I hope you know that I told him off for that. It was completely ridiculous of him.

SEVERUS: Thanks, Lily.

LILY: It seemed like you were close with that older Prefect girl, though.

SEVERUS: Narcissa? Yeah, she's been nice to me.

LILY: Who else have you been hanging out with?

SEVERUS: What do you mean?

LILY: Well, I'm- I'm just worried for you, Sev. I mean, some of the older kids in Slytherin are pretty sketchy, if we're honest-

SEVERUS: "Sketchy"?

LILY: Not all of them! But I mean, people like that Mulciber and Avery- they're just trouble, Sev, you know they are. And word on the street is that that Prefect's sister is Bellatrix Lestrange, that woman in with You-Know-Who-

SEVERUS: So what? You do realize that Bellatrix is also the cousin of that Sirius Black arse that you hang out with. What's the difference?

LILY: Well, Sirius is immature, I'll give you that, but he's not gonna turn to the Dark Arts, Sev.

SEVERUS: And maybe Mulciber and Avery won't, either. You don't know anything about my friends, Lily. You're just judging them before you've even met them.

LILY: Come on, Sev, all I'm saying is that you should be careful with who you spend your time with.

They arrive at the Divination Tower, and SEVERUS pulls down the trapdoor in the ceiling to enter.

SEVERUS: You know, Lily, I thought you trusted my choice of friends. Considering you were my first one.

He climbs into the classroom, and LILY sighs heavily before following him.
