September 2, 1973

In the Hogwarts staff room on the first day of school, MINERVA sits at an armchair reading the Daily Prophet while brewing a cup of tea with her wand. The door opens, and POMONA enters.

POMONA: There she is, all ready and awake for the first day of school.

MINERVA: (smiling) Good morning to you, too.

POMONA: (sitting down next to her) How have you been, dear?

MINERVA: Same as always. Very little changes with me, you know that.

POMONA: You never did like to open up, even as a girl.

At that moment, the door opens and HORACE barges in, looking as if he had just woken up.

MINERVA: (smiling slightly) Good morning, Horace.

POMONA: Rough night?

HORACE: The Slytherins had an all-out rage party in the common last night. It was an absolute mess, didn't settle it down until two in the morning- and I've got the N.E.W.T. students, first thing in the morning-

POMONA: You've gotta lay down the law with them, Horace.

HORACE sighs heavily and races out of the room. POMONA and MINERVA share a look and both quietly laugh.

MINERVA: Say what you will about my House, but I never let the Gryffindor parties get too bad. Unless it's after a Quidditch victory. Then I give them some leeway.

POMONA: My students are good kids. But enough about that. Talk.

MINERVA: About?

POMONA: About this so-called Order of the Phoenix.

MINERVA: (sipping her tea) There's nothing to talk about just yet, Pomona.

POMONA: Oh, no?

MINERVA: You know how these things have to play out. Without the Ministry backing us, it's gonna to be top secret, and remain that way.

POMONA: Are a lot of the Aurors from the Ministry joining you?

MINERVA: (nodding) A few. Some of scared, and don't want to get mixed up in it. We're hoping our numbers will increase with time.

POMONA: A shame I can't be a part of it.

MINERVA: Albus needs the staff at Hogwarts to remain vigilant. He can't risk losing them. Don't let it bother you though, I'm not even considered a member yet-

POMONA: You were always the golden girl, Minnie. Nothing ever stood in your way.

MINERVA: Come now, Pomona. I could never have done it without you.

POMONA: You flatter me, my friend. (She checks her watch) We had better get going, though.

They both stand up and make their way to the exit of the room.

MINERVA: When all this over, this Castle will be just as peaceful as before. But until then, I suppose-

POMONA: We'll take it one day at a time.
