March 9, 1974

MINERVA sits behind her desk, rubbing her forehead with her hand and sighing loudly. A knock is heard on the door.

MINERVA: (without looking up) Enter!

JAMES and SIRIUS come inside the office and nervously sit in front of the desk.

MINERVA: Please tell me that the owl I just received from Miss Black is a joke.

JAMES: You don't know the full story, Professor!

SIRIUS: Yeah, my cousin was totally out of line-

MINERVA: (spreading her hands sarcastically) Oh, well, please. Enlighten me.

JAMES: First of all, Snape started it! He used Expelliarmus against me and we just had a little duel!

SIRIUS: Completely harmless.

JAMES: And secondly, I'm sorry, Professor, but are we just gonna sit here and pretend that that narcissistic bitc-

MINERVA: (warningly) Potter!

JAMES: Sorry, Professor. That narcissistic- person- isn't in with the Death Eaters? Her sister's Bellatrix Lestrange, for God's sake! Her whole family's in with You-Know-Who! No offense, Sirius.

SIRIUS: None taken.

JAMES: And thirdly-

MINERVA: That is enough, Potter. No matter her personal life outside of this castle, Narcissa was right to send you here. Duelling is not permitted on Hogwarts grounds in the middle of a school day, I trust you know that.

JAMES: Yes, ma'am.

MINERVA: Especially with everything that's been going on. This is a school, boys. And we are not trying to enforce the idea that all minor disputes can be solved with physical combat. Do I make myself clear?

JAMES: Yes.

SIRIUS: Yes.

MINERVA: Good. Now, I'm not going to take away any points from Gryffindor only because our victory against Ravenclaw finally put us in the running for the House Cup-

JAMES: (relieved) Thanks, Professor!

MINERVA: But you will both serve detention this week, under my careful supervision. Understood?

JAMES and SIRIUS both nod their assent and begin to exit the office.

MINERVA: Potter?

JAMES: Yes, ma'am?

MINERVA: The match against Ravenclaw was very impressive. I hope the team has been training hard since then?

JAMES: Yes, ma'am.

MINERVA: Good. I want to see Gryffindor win again, Potter. I saw potential in you when I recommended you to the team Captain this year. Prove that I was correct, won't you?

JAMES: (smiling) I will.

MINERVA: Good. Off you go, then.
