In the Gryffindor common room at night, many students are sitting around haphazardly. All the tables are occupied; LILY and REMUS sit by the window on the floor, studying their History of Magic notes.
LILY: What year was the Statute of Secrecy signed?
REMUS: I think it's 1692.
LILY: Thanks.
REMUS: Wait, no. Scratch that- it was signed in 1689, but it never came into full action until 1692.
LILY: (jokingly) Remus, Remus, get yourself together!
REMUS: (smiling) Okay, you, know what, it was one mistake.
LILY: I'm only joking, come on- (she playfully grabs his arm and rests her chin on his shoulder, reading his notes).
The door to the common room opens, and JAMES and FRANK enter.
FRANK: They announced it! Team list! We're on it!
ALICE: (standing up from a table) You made it?
FRANK nods, and ALICE cheers before running forward, locking her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately. JAMES walks over to LILY and REMUS.
JAMES: You guys hear? You are now officially looking at the new Gryffindor Chaser.
REMUS: Congratulations, mate. (He high fives JAMES).
JAMES: Evans, anything?
LILY: Good job, Potter. Hopefully your Quidditch skills will outweigh your academic skills. And your social skills, for that matter. (Both she and REMUS laugh lightly).JAMES: Just you watch. First match against Ravenclaw, you'll be speechless, Evans.
LILY: Can we bet on that? (She and REMUS laugh again).
JAMES: Whatever. Where's Sirius?
REMUS: I think he's upstairs.JAMES: Okay. See you around. (He makes his way up to the boys' dormitory).
REMUS: That's awesome for him.
LILY: Yeah, I guess Quidditch'll be good for him. Something for him to gloat about, as if there's not enough already.
They continue studying together. JAMES stares heavily at them from the upper balcony for a few seconds before retreating to his room.
