Song: Rewrite the stars from the Greatest Showman; cover by The Piano Guys
The sound of serene music, slow and hauntingly beautiful, increased in volume as a small group of female ballet performers took to the center of the room to deliver an erotic performance, at first glance the dancers appeared to be wearing paint splattered leotards, but it soon became obvious as they began performing, as their male counterparts joined them and as body parts became more visible to the physical eye that they were entirely in the nude.
Back and forth, attendants busied themselves, serving drinks and receiving and delivering information concerning the pledges to the various organizations. At one point, Derek turned on one of his phones to send instructions to his accountant, and Gio left the hall to place a call to his accountant for the same reason.
It surprised Rya how quickly and efficiently pledges were being fulfilled. Everything appeared discreet and seamless, and as the dancers left, a lone male cellist took their place in the spotlight.
One after the other, people took to the dance floor around him as the pianist and the violinist joined in with their instruments from their separate positions on both sides of the hall.
Rya felt the phone in her purse vibrate, she’d ignored her phone for most of the evening but figured that now was as good a time as any to check on it. It began buzzing quietly again as she pulled it out.
It was a call from Will, she swiped left of her screen to cut the call and quickly typed out a message promising to return his call later that evening. She’d just finished checking her other messages when Derek leaned in to murmur into her ear.
‘Dance with me,’ he said as he removed his arm from around her and got to his feet.
She accepted the arm he held out to her accepting his assistance as she got to her feet, ‘I don’t dance,’ she said softly to him the moment he’d guided her to the dance floor and had his arms wrapped around her, ‘it’s not really my thing.’
He gazed down at her for a brief moment, a surprisingly mischievous expression spreading across his face as he tightened the arm he had around her waist, and placed the palm of his other hand low on her back.
‘Everybody dances,’ he murmured into her ear as he began to move, swaying from side to side, and guiding her body to move as one with his, ‘in some way or the other,’ he continued softly.
She shivered as his breath tickled her ear and the low, deep baritones of his voice caused a tingle to roll down her spine.
‘…and I,’ he continued, ‘am well acquainted with the way you dance, and I can assure you that yours is a dance that I enjoy very much.’ he’d pulled back slightly to look at her.
She lowered her eyes from his an embarrassed flush creeping up her cheeks. They were bathed in the spotlight that washed over the dance floor, and surrounded by a crowd of people, yet, in the moment, she felt as though they were the only two people in the hall. The murmur of voices from the crowd faded and all that was left was the strains of music, the low sound of his voice and the warmth that enveloped her from being held by him.
‘I guess I walked right into that one,’ she mumbled raising her eyes to meet his as he chuckled.
Their gazes touched and held as he guided her across the floor, they danced silently, bodies gliding against each other, breaths mingling and lips barely touching. She breathed deeply, filling her senses with his intoxicating scent, her body automatically responding to him on the most basic level.
Heat flared in his eyes, eliciting a similar response within her as his hand on her lower back dipped lower and onto her backside, drawing her impossibly closer so that she felt every inch of his arousal.
A soft breath escaped her lips as her gaze dropped to his mouth, only a few hours had gone by since their …that afternoon, and yet the hunger within her remained, her arousal a slow burn fueled by a touch or a glance from him, every nerve in her body responding to his very essence.
