Eren
I ran my right index finger over my marked up left forearm, the area cold, goosebumps rising where the finger made contact with. I continued the motions, building up the strength to continue. My whole arm was marked up, but not by cuts, no, I was still clean.
Names.
I wrote the names of the people I had to live for all over the appendage, a silent promise to everyone that I'd respect the life that they held dear. They were the people who had the biggest influences on me, making me into who I was. They were with me through the best of times and the worst of times. They were the people who cared most. Their names gave me the boost I needed to get through the day despite all of the turmoil going down around me. They kept me grounded and calm. They were my lifeline.
Carla.
Hange.
Sasha.
Erwin.
Tsukki.
Selena.
Fin.
Mary.
Klara.
Dustin.
...
Levi.
I sighed, rolling down my sleeve over the skin after studying the handwriting for a hot minute, ready to start the day. It had become something that I did regularly since after the talk I had Levi, a type of mantra that I used to get me closer to my goals.
Yawning, I lazily began to prepare tea for myself to drink. It was another oddity that I found myself doing since the raven left. It was his tea, but since he was no longer around, I didn't think that he would mind.
Since he's no longer around...
"Eren, you focus on the game plan rather than getting lost in thoughts that are unimportant," Dustin said, a toothbrush hanging out of his mouth, "Klara and I have everything set up with the Proxies, so you need to be mentally ready for the grand finale."
I nodded. Dustin and Klara had been living in my apartment since my relapse, Dustin and I staying on the couch, letting Klara have the bed.
"I'm helping with the Rico situation too," I protested, "I can do both."
"Eren, you literally outlined everything for us. You even wrote out what to do for multiple different scenarios and what to do if we lost," Dustin spat into the kitchen sink, making me cringe, "Klara, tell Eren that he's done enough."
Klara grabbed my tea, putting it onto the counter and taking my hands into hers. "Eren, you've done more than enough. Dustin, the Proxies and I can hold down the fort for a while, so go and sleep. You've got eyebags, so don't even try and deny that you haven't been sleeping properly."
"They aren't that bad," I replied, "They'll go away after I've had caffeine. There's no time for me to sleep at the moment. I had seven hours. I'm fine. I want to help. You're going into the field, Klara. I need to watch to keep you safe."
Dustin rested a hand on his girlfriend's shoulder, squeezing it, "Excuse me, but I'm pretty sure that the Proxies and I can offer Klara backup. She's a big girl. She can take care of herself."
"But... But I..."
"Sleep." Klara ordered, directing me to my bedroom. "Or I'll knock you out."
I shook my head, "I need to keep everyone safe. I need to get Levi back. I need to contribute more. I don't want to just wait for you before I do what I'm supposed to do. I'm Kira too. I can handle this. Let me protect everyone."
