Three more hours and they were finally halfway done with the project. This time the brown eyed boy helped, or atleast tried his best. Even though she did most of the work, but then there was the fact that he hasn't been to school since sixteen years of age and education hasn't been his priority since.
"You sure you can't stay for dinner?"
She had to jog down the stairs to keep up with him. Shaking his head, he's about to open his mouth and explain that he had to get back home. In all honesty, he just didn't feel like sitting on the same table as her father. The tension would just be too much and he was afraid to snap.
"You guys finished with the project?"
There he stood at the foot of the staircase. The brown eyed boy comes to a stop a couple steps before him and stares into his eyes.
"Yup, finally! "
Elora sighs in relief, not quite yet noticing the tension between the two. But when she notices that Dylan has stopped in his tracks, she looks up at him with slightly furrowed eyebrows.
"You gonna stay for dinner, kid?"
"I can't...sir"
He has to bite down on his tongue to keep back any internal thoughts from escaping past his lips.
"Lora, would you check on the chicken in the oven for me?"
Moving his gaze from the boy, it lands on his daughter and he gives her a smile. Nodding, she glances at Dylan first before jogging down the rest of the stairs and into the kitchen.
"Listen, kid...I'm not sure why I'm getting those vibes, but I don't want you getting close to my daughter-"
"I think you know exactly why you're getting those vibes, Mr Jones"
Before he knows it, the words are already past his lips and out in the open. There was no going back now and finally realisation falls on the man standing before him.
"I knew it...you're Raven and Gabriel's son, aren't you?"
"Took you long enough to put two and two together, Captain Jones "
Taking a step forward, Captain Jones points a threatening finger at him with his eyes narrowing into a dangerous glare.
"What do you want with my daughter?"
"To be friends, why else? I mean, we've always been good friends, haven't we? I must ask though, what gave it away? Was it my eyes?" Dylan asks with a smirk.
"It was when my daughter lied to me, your name isn't Adams, it's O'Brien-"
"Yeah, you should remember the name of the family you betrayed!"
And the anger he's been trying to keep locked away, finally unleashes.
"I did what I had to do!"
"Yeah...that's exactly what I'm doing now too" Dylan nods slowly.
"Stay away from her or I swear-"
"You'll what? What could be worse that you could possibly do to me? I've been through hell already, Jones "
Taking down the rest of the stairs, the brown eyed boy starts making his way towards the front door.
"I'll tell her who you really are, that'll keep her away..."
Dylan stops in his tracks on hearing that. A moment passes before a sick grin creeps up to his face.
"You do that and then you'll have to explain to her how you helped kill my parents, how you let me get tossed around from one house to the other until I ended up in a mental hospital. How you let everyone believe I was a murderer, when you know I wasn't. Oh! And how you're not telling Elora about...her "
