December 14, 1801 was finally the day Alexander and I will confess are love to each other in front of are closest friends. Of course no family besides the Washington's would be there but other then that it was mostly our friends from war and my best friend from across the seas from France, Rose. She was born in Spain but ran away with stolen money from her taunting parents. She was able to stay with Charles Cornwallis another reason why I loved him so much. He provided my best friend a place to stay.
When I ran away to America she could not come because of her parents searching for her. If she boarded that ship she most likely would have been caught. Lucky, for us her parents died about three months ago so now she will be venturing out to America to be my maid of honor at my wedding.
I purposely put Lafayette and her on the same ship hoping Lafayette would realize how Adrienne was not his 'true love'. She treats him horribly and uses him for his money for herself. She neglects their four kids and sleeps with other men behind Lafayette's back. He knows but he doesn't want to end the marriage because of the kids and his love for her.
I also know that I am being selfish for wanting two of my best friends to be together but I am not wrong they at perfect for each other they just need to see.
I grunt as Amelia pulls on my strings of my wedding corset breaking me from my love fantasies.
"Alaska stop daydreaming we have three hours until you have to walk down the aisle and you are barely ready!" Amelia yells as she pulls the strings tighter.
"Okay, okay I am paying attention," I sigh as I steady myself against the wall of my room. I hear the door open revealing Martha Washington. Martha was in a simple tight fit pastel blue dress with a small lace detailing on top. I smile at her as she rushes over.
"Your gonna break her ribs! We can't have her pass out at the alter. Here let me do it," Martha cried as she rushed over. Amelia sighs and hands Martha the strings. Martha loosens them and I gasp out finally being able to breathe. Martha then pulls them tight and all the air I had to breathe disappears. She ties the strings and stands me up straight. She smiles as she walks over to my huge petticoat. She opens the back and helps me step into it. It instantly adds another few pounds and I don't even have the dress on yet.
The door opens again and Theodosia Burr walks in accompanied with Martha Laurens and lastly Elizabeth Sanders (Hercules wife). They are all holding my stunning white dress. I smile at them as the carefully bring it over to me.
Martha Washington and Theodosia hold me still and Martha Laurens and Elizabeth Sanders pull the dress over my body and swiftly fitting it onto me. I feel Amelia button up my dress in the back and then placed her hands on my shoulders.
"You ready to see?" She asks.
"No, not until I have my makeup and hair done," I respond. Everyone looks shocked but nods and starts to work.
"You look beautiful dear," Martha Washington tells me. All the other girls hum in response as they glide around the room. Amelia carefully puts on my white toned foundation that Martha Washington had bought for me. Having light skin meant wealth so me having very tan skin I was blessed to wear the foundation on my face. It made me look elegant and wealthy. I can then feel Theodosia added some rosy blush to my checks making me look young and healthy. In the corner of my eye I see Martha Laurens mixing Lamp black with oil to make a black liner and mascara for my eyes. Elizabeth adds belladonna drops to my eyes to brighten them up. Amelia now was putting rouge onto my lips to redden them.
My makeup was done and now my hair was being pulled into a loose ponytail on top of my head. Elizabeth pulled down some strands and curled them. I had pin curl curls in the back of my ponytail.
After two hours of getting ready I was done and now I had one hour to rest and prepare.
"Oh God Alaska you are utterly the most lovely bride I have ever seen," The Martha's gasp at the same time. They both turn towards each other and laugh at their words. I see Amelia with tears in her eyes.
"Oh Amelia don't cry!" I whine. She laughs as small tears fall down her face.
"I'm sorry I just never thought that this weak broken girl laying unconscious on my living room couch would look this alive and joyful," Amelia confesses. I pull her into a tight embrace. I feel tears start to fall and she screams, "Don't cry! We did not spend two hours on you for you to cry it all off!" I laugh and my tears disappear. I then hear the door open and I see Rose standing there.
"Rose!" I gasp.
"Alaska!" She screams back. We run and embrace each other lovingly.
"God Alexander is one lucky guy I mean look at you! Your grew boobs!" She yells. I laugh at her joke when I hear an uncomfortable attempt at clearing of the voice. I look over to see Lafayette and Hercules.
"You guys made it!" I yell as I embrace them. I feel a tear fall onto my shoulder and I look up to see Hercules crying.
"I'm sorry it's just your so beautiful and it's hard to see my bestfriend so grown up," Hercules cries out.
"Oh Hercules!" I cry as I wipe away his tears. I then turn around and decide to do some match making.
"Lafayette have you met Rose? She lived in France with me!" I says super energetically.
"Oui I have we met on the boat ride here," He says with a small smirk! Oh my God a smirk! I look over to see Roses checks bright red. Bingo!
"Okay anyway! Get back to Alexander I'm sure he needs you more then I do!" I laugh. Hercules and Lafayette leave on my orders and I turn to all my friends. I suddenly feel panic. What if something happened to Alexander and he leaves me a widow. Or what if he cheats because I can't satisfy him! Or what if I can't have kids and ruin his legacy!
My breathing quickens and I suddenly feel nauseous. I run to the bathroom and quickly Martha Washington, Rose, and Amelia are by my side the other girls leave us alone. Which I was glad for.
"I'm not good enough for him!" I gasp out between sobs.
"No sweetie you are the sweetness most perfect bride! And Alexander loves you," Martha cooes.
"Something bad is gonna happen I know it! It always does I'm not meant to be happy," I sob.
"Alaska the past is the past each day is new and you and Alexander are gonna be the happiest ever and you deserve this happiness you feel," Amelia tries.
"No nothing as ever been good," I yell through gasps.
"Alaska stand the fuck up! I did not ride on a 14 day trip to not be at a wedding! You are gonna suck up all these pointless feelings and get married today because if not! Your whole worthless life was never worth it and this is what's gonna change you. So stand up wipe away your tears and go marry the love of your life!" Rose screams. Martha and Amelia's faces are horrified at her words but I instantly stop crying.
"Your right. I need to just suck it up and go with it," I say standing up. I embraced Rose and Martha and Amelia just exchange weirded out looks. Just then the wedding bells rings signaling me to get into position.
We stand up and make our way out of the room and to our assigned positions. Amelia fixes my smeared makeup and links arms with ten year old Phillip. Rose is linked with Lafayette. Thanks to me! Theodosia is linked with Aaron Burr, Elizabeth is linked with Hercules (Who has a basket of flowers), Martha Laurens was going to walk with Martha Washington to there seats. Washington appeared and linked arms with me.
"You look so beautiful sweetheart," He tells me and then kisses my forehead. I smile. The Martha's are about to walk out so Martha Washington quickly kisses her husband and kisses my hands. I smile at her and the doors open and they start to walk. Next was Elizabeth and Hercules which they both threw flowers everywhere. Theodosia and Aaron went, Amelia and Phillip, and then Rose and Lafayette. I can see Adrienne face fuming at how happy Rose and Lafayette are. The doors close and so now I stand in front of them with Washington. He looks down at me. "You ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I sigh. He smiles and pushes the doors open. Everyone raises and my eyes instantly lock with Alexander's. Those violet-blue eyes had tears in them and his shining smile was even brighter then normal. I am now in front of the alter and Washington carefully takes off my veil and kisses my forehead. I unlink our arms and I grab my dress so I can walk up the three steps. Alexander places his hand on my arm for support and I smile at him. We are now standing three feet away.
The priest speaks for a while until he turns to Alexander for his vows. Alexander takes a deep breath and Lafayette hands him a small folded paper. He unfolds and starts to read it,
I love you more and more every hour. The sweet softness and delicacy of your mind and manners, the elevation of your sentiments, the real goodness of your heart, its tenderness to me, the beauties of your face and person, your unpretending good sense and that innocent simplicity and frankness which pervade your actions; all these appear to me with increasing amiableness and place you in my estimation above all the rest of your sex. You excel most of your sex in all the amiable qualities; endeavor to excel them equally in the splendid ones. You can do it if you please and I shall take pride in it.
The priest looks at me so I start on my vows,
"I have told you, and I told you truly that I love you too much. You engross my thoughts too intirely to allow me to think of any thing else. You not only employ my mind all day; but you intrude upon my sleep. I meet you in every dream—and when I wake I cannot close my eyes again for ruminating on your sweetness. I make to withdraw myself from my allegiance my partial heart still returns and clings to you with increased attachment."
The look on his was a mix of love, pride, and pure admiration towards me. He leans in to kiss me but I place my hand on his heart.
"Not yet," I simply say and he smiles. He holds my hands in his as the priest continues.
Soon enough the priest says, "Celebrating the uniting of two people in this way proclaims in public what was decided in the private corners of the heart. It proclaims the couple's belief that they are meant to be together, and that they are ready to embrace the future together. Alaska and Alexander wish to pledge their vows to each other before us today."
"I, Alexander, take you, Alaska, to be my equal partner in love, life, and law, today, tomorrow, and forever. I promise to treat you with dignity, respect your need to be alone at times, help you when you need help, and turn to your first when I need help." Alexander says.
"I, Alaska, take you, Alexander, to be my equal partner in love, life, and law, today, tomorrow, and forever. I promise to share your joy and sorrow, to help you heal when the world wounds you, and to help you find beauty in everything." I say.
"Do you, Alexander, take Alaska to be your lawfully wedded wife?" The priest asks.
"I do." Alexander says with a smile.
"Do you promise to love, honor, and cherish her throughout your lives?" The priest asks Alexander.
"I do." Alexander replies.
"Do you promise to respect, comfort, and keep her, in sickness and in health?" The priest recites for him once again.
"I do." Alexander repeats again.
"Do you promise to share your joys and sorrows, and forsaking all others, to be faithful to her alone?"
"I do." Alexander's smiles.
"Do you, Alaska, take Alexander to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do." I say repeating Alexander's words.
"Do you promise to love, honor, and cherish him throughout your lives?"
"I do." I recite.
"Do you promise to respect, comfort, and keep him, in sickness and in health?"
"I do." I smile.
"Do you promise to share your joys and sorrows, and forsaking all others, to be faithful to him alone?"
"I do." I say for the last time.
The priest looks at Phillip and Phillip stands up and hands us the two gold rings. They were engraved with our names into them mine read Alexander and his read Alaska. I smile as Alexander takes my ring.
"Just as this circle is without end, my love for you is eternal. Just as it is unbreakable, my commitment to you will never fail. With this ring I take you to be my trusted partner for life." He slides the ring onto my right hand and on the ring finger. I smile as I look up at him. I then grab his ring.
"This wedding band, without beginning or end, is a symbol of my love for you. Just as it is made of pure metal, so I give you my pure love." I say as I slide his ring on his right hand on the ring finger.
"Now I will unite this couple together as one. You may now kiss the bride," I smile bright as Alexander leans in and passionately kisses me. I hear a thunder of applause and we slowly break away placing our forehead against each other.
"I love you so much," Alexander whispers for only me to hear.
"I love you too," I whisper back. I then peck his lips and he takes my hand and runs me down the aisle and to the reception at the Washington's house in New York.
