Alicia's POV

The next morning was painful. I had been dreading this day since the moment everything changed. I was standing in the airport clinging to my best friend. I couldn't leave, I couldn't. But as if to defy my thoughts, a voice split through the airport,

“Flight 109, Flight 109 to England, departing!” I squeezed my eyes shut. My mind was screaming no. I felt two arms wrap around me in a death embrace. There was wet hair sticking to my face and something wet kept hitting my shoulder. It took me a few minutes to realize that I was sobbing and so was Kami.

“We'll get through this,” she cried, “Together. I don't care if I'm hours away. I'm never going to forget you, and don't you dare think of forgetting me. You're strong, Alicia. The strongest person I've ever known. I know you'll be okay. But promise me something?”

“What's that?” I whispered.

“Move on,” she breathed. “Don't ever forget, but don't let the memory and misery ruin you. Start living this new life.”

I pulled away, and stared into her amber eyes once more. “I promise. I could never forget you.”

And with that, I felt her fingers slip through mine and I turned to the terminal. I had just lost the last part of my heart.
