Chapter 47

Ruby's pov-

I wake up with the worse headache ever, all I can see is black I attempt to open my eyes, but memories of that night come rushing back. I scream, I feel as if it's happening again I'm stuck there's no way out. Something squeezes my hand, and I begin to calm down as me eyes open the memories flood away as Harry's face appears in front of me. He's all I need to calm me down to bring me out of this state of fear. As soon as our eyes lock, I'm wrapped tightly in his arms like he's scared of he let's go the tiniest bit I'd be gone. Too soon Harry has to remove himself from me, as my doctor walks in the room, I reluctantly let go of him but keep tight ahold of his hand, he squeezes mine back reassuring me he's here.

"Hi Ruby I'm Doctor Green, could you tell me where hurts?" He asks

"Well my leg obviously and I also have a bit of a headache." I reply.

"Nurse could you go a fetch some painkiller tablets for Ruby's leg, and it is very common that you have a headache after being in surgery but don't worry it will wear off soon. Now Ruby we would like to keep you in hospital for at least tonight since you have only just had your surgery and tomorrow I will assess you again and decide whether I think you're ready to go home."

"Thank you doctor." I reply, laying my head back on the pillow. I hear Harry mumble a thank you to the doctor. I glance to my right away from Harry and notice Liam and Katy sitting there.

"I didn't even realise you guys were here." I say to them.

"Yeah we just wanted to check how you were." Liam said, Katy nodding.

"You gave us all a scare there mind." Katy joked trying to make us smile it worked on me and Liam but when I looked at Harry he was just staring into space a frown across his face. Katy must of noticed this and she and Liam excuse themselves from my room and promised to visit later in the week when I was home. I squeeze Harry hand again forcing him to look up at me, his frown turns into a sad smiles and he avoids eye contact looking away again.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask tilting his head so he has to look at me. He sighs and looks thoughtful. "You can tell me." I encourage him.

"It's just.. I mean.. I.. I'm so so sorry Ruby, this is all my fault, it was my mess but it was you that got hurt in the process and I mean I was supposed to keep you safe and look after you but insead I ending up being the reason that you, the person I love most in the world is hurt, and it wasn't even just a little bit I mean you ended up in hospital for gods sake, I can't believe I let this happen to you rub." He rushes out taking in no breaths. I grab both his hands in mine pulling him to sit on the hospital bed with me.

"Harry none of this is your fault you need to realise that, it was all Ellie, you didn't know any of this would happen, she has mental problems and that is what hurt me her actions it was nothing to do with you, it was my decision to follow you and you tried your best to stop me getting hurt, you saved me when I was hurt and I might not be here now if it wasn't for you, you can't blame yourself for this." I say never looking away from his eyes. "Promise me you won't blame yourself anymore."

"Promise!" He replies holding his pinky finger up, I hook my pinky round his, from him him to pinky promise. "I love you so so much Ruby I promise I'll keep you safe forever and nothing like this will ever happen again." I cut him of pressing my lips to his, reaching my arms around his neck pulling him closer to me, I pull away from the kiss and rest my forehead on his.

"I love you so so much to Harry." I say pulling his lips back onto mine.

~next morning~

Harry's pov-

Halfway through trying to get to sleep last night together on the tiny hospital bed we realised it was impossible for us both to fit so I ended up on the rock solid chair resting my head on the side of the bed, but my neck is so stiff I paying for it now. I check the clock and it's only 7.30 am and Ruby's still asleep. Realising there's no way I could go to sleep in the uncomfortable position again, I quietly get up to get a coffee. I walk down the hospital halls to the coffee machine, I'm not sure if I can even call the drink coffee it's so watery but it's better than nothing. After picking up the plastic cup I return back to Ruby's room seeing her awake talking to the doctor.

"After looking at your leg, it seems to be healing well you will need to use crutches and not put much weight on it for the next 4 weeks and after that you can come in for another check up to see where to go from there, but as of now you're free to go make sure to keep taking your medication and I'll see you in 4 weeks." I catch the end of what the doctor is saying.

"You can come home?" I double check asking Ruby.

"Yep I can leave now! Thank god I can't wait to see Alexa and have a shower, I feel disgusting." She replies, however even after everything she's been through she still looks flawless to me.

"Katy brought some clothes for you yesterday, so loose shorts so nothings affecting the healing and a baggy jumper you can go and change if you want." She nods her head talking the bag, as I help her off the bed and into the bathroom. I take everything else out to the car including her crutches and medication. When I walk back in the room Ruby is hobbling out of the bathroom.

"You okay?" I reach other steadying her.

"Yeah I just don't think it was beat for me to walk with out my crutches." She says.

"Shit Ruby I've just put them in the car I'm so stupid, can I carry you?"

"I'd like that." she replies holding her arms out to me.

Once we are both in the car I head to Louis' to pick up Alexa, I'm so glad we have friends we can count on. I tell Ruby just to stay in car it would be too much effort for her and me to come with me, but I know how much she's missed Alexa and is dying to see her. I ring the doorbell and louis answers, to put it straight he looks like death.

"Harry, how do you do this on a daily bases, it's so much work!" He says making me laugh."

"It's worth it!" I reply glancing behind Louis seeing Alexa walking behind him, dressed in only a nappy and a Doncaster Rovers football top, which is more like a dress on little Alexa.

"Daddy!" She shouts as she spots me, I immediately scoop her into my arms Kissing her head.

"I've missed you baby, but louis what on earth is she wearing?" I ask him laughing again, that's one thing about louis he always has me laughing.

"Well you didn't give me enough clothes for her and with all the went on I didn't like to interrupt so I improvised a little."

"But why a Doncaster rovers top?" I ask.

"Well you know, she's needs to start supporting from an early age." He jokes making me laugh once again.

"Okay the mate, but in all seriousness thanks so much for watching her it means a lot!" I tell him.

"It's no problem harry you know ok always here, tell Ruby I hope she's okay and I'll come by soon."

I say goodbye and I carry Alexa back to the car instead of putting her in her car seat in the back I take her straight to the passenger side handing her to Ruby watch my two favourite girls faces light up and hugging each other tightly. Once Ruby has hugged and kissed Alexa enough I persuade her to let go so I can strap Alexa in her car seat and we can go home. Once we got home I grab all the bags from the hospital taking them inside, then I take Alexa in and sit her on the carpet turning some cartoons on the telly and go back out to carry Ruby inside. I placed Ruby on the sofa, and putting her Leg up on a foot stool like the doctor told us, Alexa held her arms out to be picked up and I sit her snuggled into Ruby's side in the middle of us. I see Ruby and Alexa laughing at something on the cartoons but I can't focus enough to see what it was, because I can't tear my eyes away from my perfect family, and I sit and watch them until they fall asleep, feeling me eyes get heavy I too drift off to sleep wondering how I got so lucky.
