Chapter 1

3 years later…

Ruby’s pov-

I ring the doorbell and step back waiting for an answer. When no one answered, I just walk in myself; this place is like my second home really.

“Jess? Niall? I’m here!” I shout as there was still no one in view.

“Oh hi Ruby.” Niall called from the kitchen.

“Hey Niall, I picked up the cake.” I replied handing over the biggest cake I’ve ever seen, I can't believe its for a two year old.

“Thanks so much Ruby, we owe you, Jess is upstairs pulling out her whole wardrobe as she apparently has nothing to wear.” Niall says clearly being sarcastic, I don’t know anyone who has as many clothes as Jess.

“I’ll go help her find something.” I reply walking to the staircase. I turn into Jess and Niall’s room to see millions of clothes all over the floor, watching as Jess basically throws all her clothes around.

“HI JESS!” I shout seeing as she still hasn’t noticed me standing here.

“Oh my god, Ruby thank god you came early what am I supposed to wear???" She asked frantically. I browsed her wardrobe seeing very little as most of her clothes were all over the floor, I start to scan through the huge pile when a cream dress caught my eye.

"This is perfect, it’s not to dressy but enough for the party!” I said holding up the dress, starting to lower it as I see the look on Jess’ face.

“I’ve tried it already it’s too plain and boring.”

“If you wear it with your black belt and...”

“My black sandal heels!” she finishes my sentence for me.

“This is perfect thank you so much Ruby!” Jess says as she puts her shoes on.

“So who else is coming today?” I ask, genuinely interested.

“Well my parents, Niall’s parents, Niall’s brother Greg, his wife and Theo, some children from Alexa’s nursery and their parents, Ellie and Katy, the Niall’s friends Louis, Liam and…” she pauses

“And who Jess?” I ask in confusion

“Harry.”

“Harry?!” I choke out, fucking Harry, the rude dick that I left even before the food came on our date by sneaking out the bathroom window Harry. I couldn’t believe he was coming to Alexa’s party, I should of known him being Niall’s best friend I could of prepared myself.

“Look Ruby I’m sorry I know you guys didn’t hit it off well and have never got along since, but he’s Niall’s best friend we can’t not invite him.” Jess says sympathetically

“I know, I’m being selfish, its Alexa’s day I suppose I can put up with him for the afternoon, I’ll just say out of his way as much as I can.” I reply

“Good idea, no we better go downstairs people will be arriving soon.” Jess says walking out of her room and downstairs.

Harry’s pov-

I open my eyes squinting at the light I look at the clock on the table beside my bed  to see it’s already half 2, shit I’m supposed to be at Niall’s by three. I sit up and suddenly the headache from the night before kicks in, I climb over Abbie, or Amy I can’t even remember I was so drunk when I brought her back here, to get something to sort this headache out. I take the tablets with a glass of water, not even having time to take a shower, I shove my black skinny jeans on, and white t-shirt and head to Niall’s leaving what’s-her-name in my bed. If he wasn’t my best friend and it didn’t mean so much to Jess I wouldn’t even bother going to this fucking party.

I pull up outside the house seeing the back gate is, open and a gathering of people in their garden, great I’m going to have to socialise. I ignore all the people chatting in the garden and walk straight to the kitchen to find Niall. That’s when I see her, Ruby, it’s weird I remember her name after all these years but I can’t remember the girls I slept with last night, she stood in blue and white patterned summer dress looking flawless, no stop Harry she left you at your date, no girl does that, who would want to stand this up? I asked myself looking down at my many assets, I was awoke from my thoughts as I heard my name.

“Harry, nice to see you.” I turned around to see Jess, holding Alexa around her hip, as she comes towards me hugging me.

“Hey Jess.” I say as I kiss Alexa on the head, she grabs my thumb in her tiny fingers.

“Happy birthday beautiful!” I told her, I know she’s only two and doesn’t know what I’m saying, but it made Jess smile.

“Niall’s just gone to pick his parents up he should be back any minute though, you remember Ruby.” Jess says pointing to Ruby looking worried to both our reactions, I look up to make eye contact with Ruby who currently has the fakest smile I’ve ever seen, she may be fooling Jess but she’s certainly not fooling me.

“It’s nice to see you again Ruby.” I say as nicely as I can possibly force myself.

“You too Harry” she tries to sweetly reply, but I can see she had to force herself just as much as I did to be nice in front of Jess. She seemed sufficient with our hellos towards each other so headed to the garden to greet the other guests.

“So how have you been?” I ask knowing Jess could probably still hear. Ruby turns around with a huge frown on her face, she grabs the collar of my top and dragged me into the sitting room.

Ruby’s pov

I can’t stand that boy, he was a complete and utter prick to me when we went on that date which ended in the most awkward of situations, and he has the nerve to ask how I am, I grab him by the collar pulling him into the sitting room.

“I’m going to say this once and only once Harry, I’m only going to be civil with you for Jess and Niall’s benefit, and because I do not want to spoil their daughters 2nd birthday by killing you, so for the rest of the afternoon just stay out or my way or..” I pause struggling what to say, I bring my head up to meet his dazzling green eyes and see his mouth turn into a smirk.

“Or what?" He challenged "You’ll climb out the window to get away from me? He questions taking me back slightly. I don’t know who he thinks his is, he acts like god gift himself, just looking at him makes me sick.

“Look Ruby you act like I’m the bad guy here, you’re the one who stood me up and left me on our date remember that, and don’t worry I will be staying out of your way it’s not like I would want to be anywhere near you.” He says turning on his heel and walking out.
