Not Everything Is As Seems

Things haven't been quite the same since Yo got back from helping his mother. Yes, Pha and him were still together, Yo was still head of heels for him but something was a miss. Pha had been spending less and less time with Yo over the past month, cancelling dates last minute, forgetting to call, not staying over at his place anymore. He always claimed it was because of his busy class schedule and he needed the time to study and Yo, like always, went along with it. Whenever Pha did forget something important he always found a way to make it up to him the next day, with a big, romantic and thoughtful gift. To any outsider you would think they were the perfect couple but to their friends, mostly Beam, you knew something was going on but just didn't know what.

Pha didn't mean to keep forgetting to spend time with Yo, it's just that he'd be hanging out with Jackson after class and time would slip away from them. They would hang out after class some days, while waiting for Yo to finish and next thing you know they were halfway across town having dinner together. It's not like he planned any of this, it just sort of happened but no matter how upset Yo was that Pha had forgotten again, he was always able to make it back up to him the following day.

Even if Yo was a loving, caring and extremely forgiving boyfriend, there is only so much one person can take before it all blows up. This all happened one night when Pha had yet again forgotten their date. They were planning to go to their favourite restaurant for dinner, but like always Yo was left there sitting alone all night. After waiting for 2 hours, and having a light meal, Yo quickly got up, caught a taxi home, then walked directly to Pha's room demanding for him to open up. Much to Yo's disappointment Pha wasn't home, he was out at a nearby pub having a drink with Jackson and some other classmates of his. Yo was far from happy about this and the moment he saw Pha he was going to find out what was going on.

Beam too noticed something different about Pha. When they hung together during lunch Pha wasn't as glued to his phone as much, nor was he going on and on about things his precious Yo was doing. He also observed that Pha wasn't fawning over Yo like he used to, nor spending much quality time with him. Unlike Yo, he wasn't buying the "I'm busy with my studies" line he was throwing around. He has known Pha a lot longer and knew something was up. But what exactly?

Beam decided to share his concern about Pha with Kit. As his other best friend, shouldn't he be noticing these things too? Too be honest Kit wasn't as focused on Pha and Yo's struggling relationship as he would normally be, been too happy spending his time with Ming, but when Beam brought it to his attention, he couldn't help but notice all the inconsistencies. There was just so many things that didn't add up but he couldn't put his finger on it.

The next day during lunch at the medical facility Pha, Beam and Kit were all sitting around a table, with their study sheets out in front of them, trying to focus on their work. Jackson had gone to the bathroom a few moments ago and hasn't returned yet. While in the mist of studying Forth, Ming and especially Yo had arrived and sat down next to their respective partners. Yo had turned to Pha and asked him if he could have a word with him privately, away from prying ears. Pha had agreed and got up to follow Yo to a secluded part of the school not far from the cafeteria. Now Yo wasn't a vocal person. He wasn't the type to yell or scream when he gets upset or hurt but he needed to let Pha know how he has been feeling lately.

"Pha, can I ask something?"

"Sure. Anything for you Yo?"

"Ummm...this isn't easy for me...but why have you been so distant lately. You barely call me, we don't see each other much, you never stay over in my room anymore and you keep forgetting our dates or cancelling last minute. What is going on with you?"

Pha didn't know how to answer that. He didn't think Yo would be affected by all this, since Yo was fawning over him like crazy, even after being together over a year. He knew if he wanted to keep up this game he had to figure something out. Clearly he couldn't keep missing important dates anymore, and his grand gestures to make up for it won't cover it. He was running over different scenarios through his mind as to how he would get out of this mess.

"Yo, look I'm sorry I really am. I promise I'll spend more time with Yo, it's just classes have become so hectic lately. You know how it is studying to become a doctor. Don't worry though baby, this weekend will just be me and you I promise. We can do anything you like. You name it sweety."

Yo didn't know what to think. Lately Pha has broken a few too many promises and wasn't sure he could trust him but figured it couldn't hurt so he asked Pha if they could go to an amusement park. Pha readily agreed and promised him that he would be a better boyfriend from now on. It was hard work but Pha knew he had to step up his game if he was going to keep Yo around, he couldn't break anymore promises or Yo might walk out of his life for good.

They then headed back to the group and continued their lunch. Jackson had came back and was sitting in Yo's spot making Yo sit next to Kit on the otherside of the table. He didn't mind as much because Pha was constantly staring at him. Beam spotted this and didn't know what to make of it. Maybe the little talk Yo had with Pha cleared everything up and they would go back to normal, but Beam would definitely keep his eyes out.
