One year ago they took on the Devil.

Alayna jumped back as a ring of fire lit up around the cage, burning bright up to a foot in the air and lightning crackled across the dark abyss that loomed above them. Her dark eyes slowly traveled up to the shadow of a figure inside the once empty cage. His red eyes were the only thing she could see in the darkness as he slowly walked up to the edge of the cage. He looked the same as he did before he possessed Sam, his old vessel.
He took in a deep breath, his eyes drinking her in as he leaned up against the bars of the cage, "my little doppelganger, you're supposed to be dead." He pointed out, his eyes slowly traveling from her toes all the way to the top of her head. She shifted uncomfortably beneath his gaze. "What do you want of me?"

Sam fell into the cage, Karoline died, and Dean left in search of a way to bring them back.
***
Dean pursed his lips, turning away from the older hunter to look over the growing trail. "Wanna go on a road trip?"
"Uh, I don't think so," Jason shook his, turning to grab his shoes from the end of the bed and taking a seat to slip them on. "I have work, but I can see if I can get you an address."
"You do that," Dean muttered distractedly.
Jason let his foot drop to the ground once he finished. He sighed, standing up and patting Dean on the shoulder. "You know what, I think I can call in sick," Dean turned startled eyes on him. "We'll head out in an hour." Dean nodded, not taking his eyes off the map.
***
Alayna was alone.
***
Alayna scoffed, shifting in her seat, but she refused to look at him. Her eyes remained glued to the paper, but she was no longer seeing the words written on them.
"I shouldn't've given up. I shouldn't've run away." Dean continued pushing up out of his seat.
Alayna finally looked up at him, her eyes cold, "But, you did." She whispered, shaking her head at him. "And I got over it."
***
When Sam miraculously comes back to life and reunites with Dean and Alayna, something isn't right.
***
Everything went still as she stared up at him, not believing he was standing right in front of her. Then, she pulled a hand back and slapped him across the face. Sam stumbled a bit a hand coming up to grab at his jaw. That actually kind of hurt. He turned startled eyes on the shorter girl. He definitely wasn't expecting that.
"What the Hell is wrong with you?" She snapped, shaking her head at him. "A year? You've been back a year and you didn't tell me? You didn't think to call? Do you have any idea what I went through?"
***
Somethings not right with any of them.
***
"Yes, I do," she nodded, stepping up to him with fierce eyes. Despite what everyone kept saying, she knew that deep down he was still Sam. They just had to find him. "I know who you really are, better than anyone. And I'm not giving up.
