Chapter One
They said fairytales were for little girls who waited for their prince charming as they ride their white horse; girls who dreamt of a fairytale-like life as they watch the moon under a blanket of stars, kiss under the rain shower, smile in the midst of the storm and then wake up in a haven at mid sweet spring. It was funny how I was one of those silly girls that believed in their dreamy fairytales. I too, waited for my prince charming to get me in his white horse or kiss me under the very romantic rain shower.
Mine? My own version of fairytale started when I was seventeen.
But it was then too when it ended.
I looked at myself at the vanity mirror of my room, checked my black dress which hung mid thigh with my matching black stilettos, and smiled in contentment. My eyes were shining with excitement. Nate and I were going out to our first official date! I was so happy that I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear.
"I'm scared that your face will break into two if you don't stop grinning like a mad woman, Jane." said Amy, my best friend, as she sat on my bed. She was here tonight to help me get ready to my first date with my prince charming. Amy was a cute redheaded girl, she has been my best friend since before I started high school. We met in a summer camp. She has been an outgoing and cheerful girl. Everybody liked her because she was strong and funny, and even I liked her the first time she smiled at me.
"I know, right. But I can't help it! I'm so happy.... And excited..." I said, giggling in my own stupidity as I tied my wavy black hair in a tight ponytail and allowed it to fall in my back with its natural waves. Mom called my name from downstairs signalling that he has arrived. Amy and I exchanged excited grins as we darted downstairs to meet him.
"Be careful, Janelle, you're wearing killer heels." My mom admonished, as she walked closer to us, emerging from the kitchen. She smiled sweetly. She was the best mom anyone could wish for and I was lucky to have her. She knew about my date with Nate and she approved of him, telling me that he was a sweet guy.
"He's outside!" Amy whispered excitedly while peeking from the window. I took a few deep breaths, willing myself to calm down. I suddenly felt very nervous, yet giddy with excitement.
"Do I look okay?" I asked my mom worriedly and Amy whom were all smiling at me with adoring eyes.
"No shit Sherlock! Of course you do!" Amy said, grabbed my purse from the couch and handed it to me.
"Mom," I asked her expectantly. Gosh, my nerves are killing me.
"You're perfect, Jane. Your dad will be proud if he sees you like this." My mom said with a catch in her voice as she hugged me. I loved her warmth. I smiled, I would love it if dad could meet this awesome person, and I would be happier if he too would approve of us. If only he's here.
My dad died back when I was nine because of Leukemia. Mom and Dad's love for each other was like a fairy tale, sweet and full of happy moments-at least that was what I could remember. Dad left me with those happy memories and I would never forget it, ever.
"Now, go! Don't make your date wait any longer! Break some heart!" Amy ushered me outside.
I opened the door and the most gorgeous man in the world stood in front of me. He wore a white long button up with its sleeves rolled up to his elbows then some dark denim jeans. It was just casual yet he looked dreamy and thank God I didn't look overdressed. He was the only guy who could go out wearing a sack but would still look like a runway model. He emanated confidence and that was one of the things I liked about him. His blonde hair was fashionably messy and his emerald green eyes were raking my body from head to toe, and surprisingly, I liked it too.
