The sound of the car radio wakes me up. Ash is still asleep on me, our arms and legs tangled together. Luke is humming along to a unfamiliar song.
"Oh good you're awake." Luke says looking in the rear view mirror. "It's almost 10 pm want to stop?"
I nod and gently wake Ash up.
"Babe, time go get up." I say pushing on his arm.
"Mmm? Why?" Ash mumbles in my hair.
"We are stoping soon." I say pushing him up.
"Stopping? Where are we?" I look out the window and look for a sign. One comes flying past.
San Antonio, Texas
"You drove us to Texas!" I scream at Luke.
"Well there's nothing in Mississippi or Arkansas or Louisiana and you guys never woke up so-"
"Stop stuttering and pull over at that Motel 6." Luke gets off the highway, his knuckles turning white on the steering wheel. We pull into the motel and I decide that the two boys are too tired and mentally exhausted to go socialize.
I walk up to the counter with my tiny stack of 20s.
"Hello." I say to the boy behind the counter. "One room."
He nods and takes my money.
"What are yah doin' here?" The boy behind the counter says with a strong southern draw.
"Visiting family." I say pulling a fake smile. He nods and slides over a little napkin.
"If you ever need help." He winks. I smile and turn out of the building. I check the napkin and see he put his name and number.
Cal
210-183-7162 xx. ;)
I roll my eyes and shove the paper in my jeans pockets. The nerve of some people.
I walk out and point to the motel room. Luke drives off and I walk over and open Ash's door.
"A motel babe? That's kinda kinky." He chuckles and I help him out of the car.
"Shush Ash." He kisses my head and we drag our bags inside. The room immediately smells like dog pee and body odor. I groan and walk over to the bathroom. "I call the shower first!"
"No fair. I drove all day." Luke frowns. "Maybe we could share." He winks.
"Right here ass hat." Ash says flicking up on his phone.
"Nope." I turn and slam the bathroom door. I strip and finally figure out how to turn on the stupid shower. I stand under the scorching heat, letting my hands go red. I wash off and put on my only pair a pjs.
"My turn!" Luke jumps up as I walk out of the bathroom. Ash laughs and pats the bed next to him. I place my stuff in my bag and snuggle next to him.
"There's no missing report yet." Ash says motioning to the news blurred out on the tv.
"Good." I say wrapping my hands around him. I let the quiet lull of the shower blur in with the silence. "Ash, I'm scared."
"It's okay princess. I've got you." He says wrapping his arms around me. I let a few tears out on his shirt for the first time since Clarence shot him. My body shudders at the thought.
Luke comes out of the shower a few minutes later, his hair wet and only a towel covering around his waist.
"Forgot my pants. Oops." He chuckles, grabs a pair of shorts and scurries back into the bathroom. I hear Ash groan and he untangles from me.
