Reagan POV

“You both sound great. I’m excited to work with you two.”

The son from Mondi Group, Skylar, and his fiancé Laci were here so Sam and I could get to know them. But, it almost seems like I was the one that was getting to know them because Sam just sat back, staring at me the whole time. I wasn’t sure what his problem was.

“Thank you”, Laci said, “We’re so happy that you two decided to take us on. We’ve heard a lot about Happy Endings, and there’s no other people that we’d rather have doing our wedding.”

“How exactly did you hear about us?” I asked as Sam kept his eyes on me.

“Josh Davis”, Skylar answered, “He and I have done business together a couple of times. He was supposed to get married about a month ago, right?”

Sam finally took his eyes off of me and looked at Skylar. I couldn’t help but look away at his words. I didn’t need to be reminded of why Josh didn’t get married.

“Yeah”, I answered, “Yes, he was.”

“When I saw on the news that there had been an intruder in his home that ended up shooting and killing his maid, I got worried for him. It was even worse when I heard that his fiancé was so distraught over the whole thing that she called off the wedding. That must suck.”

“Yeah, it did.”

“You were there?” he asked.

Closing my eyes for a second, I tried my best not to cry. I liked these people, and I didn’t want to have to send them away just because they knew about Josh. Plus, there was a crapload of money coming out of this wedding. And, the publicity was going to be great.

“No”, I said, shifting the leg that I had crossed, “No, but I heard about it.”

“Wait”, Laci turned to me, “I’ve seen you on the news recently. You’re Josh’s girlfriend, aren’t you?”

“Yep.”

“I thought Josh’s girlfriend was married”, Skylar whispered to her.

“She was, but I think that was her husband on the news that di-.”

“It’s been great seeing you both”, Sam interrupted to my utter relief, “I can safely say that we will be thrilled to plan your wedding. You two seem happy, and you have my approval.”

“Great!” Skylar stood up, “I’m glad to hear it. We’ll call back later this week after I check my schedule so we can decide on what days to meet.”

After I stood up, but kept my mouth shut so Sam could be the one to continue talking to them, I watched them walk away. It wasn’t long after that when I walked into my office and hoped that Sam didn’t follow me.

I had no such luck.

“Reagan, if you don’t want to work with them, I completely understand.”

“Why wouldn’t I want to work with them?” I asked.

“Because-. Sweetie, they know about pretty much everything that’s happened between you, Josh, and Lo-. I just didn’t know if you’d feel comfortable working with people that know that much about your personal life.”

“I have no problem with it.”

“Are you sure?”

“What did I just say?”

He raised an eyebrow at my response as I sat in the chair behind my desk. I didn’t have time to concern myself with Sam’s irrational worries. I was just fine.
