Reagan POV
It’s been 2 weeks.
2 weeks.
That’s how long it’s been since Josh has been arrested. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen him. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve trusted anyone.
I had locked myself in the house, only leaving to go see Trinity in the hospital. Sam had given me the time off of work, no questions asked. None of the boys had been over to see me because I had forbade them from doing so. The twins were clueless as to what was going on because I didn’t allow them to watch the news. They had had a good first 2 weeks at school, and I didn’t want anything to soil that.
As for myself and Louis…well after Josh got arrested, he left without a word. He hadn’t called or texted me at all, and I was somewhat grateful for that. I didn’t want to hear “I told you so” or “That’s what you get.” But, I did want answers from him. If he knew that Josh was the one that kidnapped him, why didn’t he confess earlier?
There were so many questions that needed answers, and I was just too exhausted to continue looking for them. So, while the twins were at school, I threw on what I hoped were clean clothes, got in my car, and drove to the hospital. Since Trinity was focused on her condition right now, she didn’t know what was going on with Josh, so she was exactly where I wanted to be.
When I got there, I went straight up to her room, thankful that Harry was at work right now. After opening the door, I saw that she was sitting up in bed with a book sprawled across her legs. Although she looked a little pale, she looked fine. She actually looked like she was getting better.
“Hey there”, I said when I came in.
“Hey, what are you doing? Why are you missing work again?”
“I wasn’t feeling well”, I lied, “So, I decided to visit you.”
“Nice to know that I’m a second choice, you witch.”
“Oh, shut up. How are you feeling?”
She put the book down and watched me as I walked over and sat in the chair in front of her bed. After giving me a look that I assume has to do with my very laidback appearance, she decided to ignore it and looked me in the eye.
“I’m fine. So is your niece. The better question is…how are you?”
“I’m also fine. Why do you ask?”
Trinity raised an eyebrow at me, but I stood my ground. I wasn’t going to tell her anything about Josh because she didn’t need any of the added stress. She had other things to worry about.
“Well, I assume you’ll tell me eventually”, she shrugged, “But, I do have some news for you.”
My heart leapt at that statement. After the less than enthusiastic 2 weeks that I’ve been having, good news seemed almost implausible right now.
“What is it?” I asked, propping my feet up on her bed.
“I’m being released from the hospital.”
“How? You’ve made a decision about the baby?”
“Yep”, she beamed, “I’m keeping it.”
Then, that means Trinity dies.
“I know what you’re thinking, Reagan. But, it’s my decision. The doctor said that I’m free to go home if I want to, but my chances of surviving are slim. Very slim actually.”
“Trinity-.”
“Reagan, if you’re going to say anything other than ‘I agree with your decision’, I don’t want to hear it. I already have to deal with telling Harry, I don’t want to have to deal with you also. I’m sorry, but if I die, that’s just a price I have to pay for her. Both of us can’t survive this; she’s the logical choice.”
