Reagan POV
“Ma’am, I’m afraid that swearing is not allowed on the premises.”
Laci rolled her eyes at the nun, but she did keep her mouth shut. Apparently, it was such a big surprise that saying “naughty” words would be frowned upon in a church. I had warned her numerous times, but since she had ignored me, I’d rather the nuns take care of her. Put some Jesus into her.
“Reagan, I’m not really into this place. How about we go and see some other venues?”
“You do realize that any church that we go to isn’t going to permit swearing?”
“Why are we getting married in a church anyway?” the redhead rolled her eyes and bit down on her manicured fingernails.
“Because your fiancé is Catholic, and he wants a traditional wedding.”
“He should have thought of that before he fuc-, screwed me a year ago.”
I liked Laci really, and I didn’t have a problem with her. But, to say that she was one of the most annoying people I’ve ever met would be an understatement. I personally didn’t see how Skylar was going to marry her. His business, not mine.
“So, honey, how do you like this place?” Skylar rounded the corner with Sam right on his heels.
“It’s not my style”, she answered taking his hand in hers, “Let’s go check somewhere else.”
“Actually”, Sam stepped in, “It’s nearing our closing time, and Reagan and I are officially done for the day. But, we’ll be happy to meet with you tomorrow.”
“Okay. Laci and I will call you tonight to set up a meeting. As for you Reagan, send my sympathies to Josh.”
“Why?” I asked, getting a confused look from Sam.
“I heard that one of his closest and most expensive investors withdrew business with him a couple of days ago. But, he’s smart, so I know he’ll make up for it somewhere.”
“Um, thanks? I’ll pass along the message.”
Skylar and Laci mumbled something about speaking with us tonight and walked out of the church door. Sam shot me an exasperated look and beckoned for me to follow him outside. When we got out of the church, he loosened his tie and laugh tiredly.
“They are always such a handful. But, they’re perfect for each other because no one else would ever tolerate them. Although Laci’s devil-may-care attitude might put some strain on the relationship.”
“She’s annoying, but I’m not the one marrying her”, I laughed, running a hand down the braid going down my back.
“Very true. What do you have planned for tonight?”
“Probably nothing. Since Josh and I spent the weekend away, I missed out on time with the twins, so I’m trying to make up for it. What about you?”
“Jonah is coming over. Lily is with Chandler for the week, so I need to take the opportunity.”
I listened to Sam give me details on how the relationship between him and the groomsmen from Maria and Nathan’s wedding was going. As far as I knew, he liked Jonah, and Jonah liked him. I was excited to meet him eventually. Sam was a hard guy to impress, so if Jonah had his attention, he was obviously something extraordinary.
“Well, this is Josh calling me, so I’ll see you tomorrow, Sam”, I waved to him as I got into my car and forced my threatening-to-close eyes to stay open.
“Of course. Tell him I say hi.”
“Will do. Hello?”
As I shut my door, Sam walked away to his car, and I put on my seatbelt. He waited until I pulled out of the parking lot to get into his car.
