Chapter 42 Baby's new Daddy?

It'd been a little while since Jake got shot and injuried, stuck in the hospital for weeks, on strict bedrest,
as him and Erika bonded through her coming to see him, whie he recovered, and they spoke about how much their lives had changed since being apart from each other. Erika started to speak to Jake more and more about Jackie, and how she was growing, as well as the ends and outs of caring for her, they even started to laugh at some of the memories of her, once Jake had started becoming a little more comfortabe with it,
while Jake told Erika about his drinking problem that had accured since the two broke up.

Erika stepped into the hospital, where a few of the Nurses greeted her by name, a they'd gotten use to seeing her for weeks, as she came back and forth to see Jake, except this time she had a little surprise with her.

"My, my, Who's this little cutie?" A Nurse asked smiling adoringly, at the little bundle in Erika's arms,
Erika smiled as Jackie clung to her, while looking around the big hospital, clearly not use to more then their small apartment, "My daughter Jackie" Erika said proudly, encourging her daughter to look at the Nurse, Jackie looked at her and her grip on Erika got a little tighter showing she was a little nervous around strangers.

"How old is she?" The Nurse asked gently rubbing Jackie's tiny soft arm, "She's eight months" Erika told her, "Aww what a pretty little girl" The Nurse said, "Can you say 'thank you' Jackie?" Erika questioned softly, but Jackie just babbled in response, Erika just sighed shaking her head, and the Nurse laughed,
"Maybe next time" She said with a shrug, "Maybe" Erika laughed before walking away, getting into the elevator, rocking Jackie as she waited to go up.

Erika felt anxitey rise in her as they went up, she was hoping for a good reaction for their first meeting, but she just couldn't imagine it going completely smooth, What if it brought up bad memories, and made Jake think of the ex she had been with, things were going so well- as well as they could considering what happened, Erika swallowed nervously as they got closer to Jake's floor, she held Jackie closer to her, as she felt her stomach drop when the elavator opened up.

"Let's try and make a good impression, okay?" Erika said to Jackie who giggled in response, Erika walked to Jake's door, all while Jackie got compliments, Erika finally made it and opened the door with one hand, while the other held Jackie blanaced on her hip, Erika entered the room, seeing Jake sitting up in his bed, he had his oxygen mask on, but otherwised looked kinda normal and relaxed while being on his phone.

"You better not be working" Erika joked getting Jake's attention, he put his phone down and looked at her smiling, before a questioning look was placed on his face when his eyes met Jackie. "Jackie?" Jake questioned, "How'd you know?" Erika asked, "I remembered her description" Jake told her while he stared at Jackie, Erika approached him nervously, "I thought it was finally time the two of you met...Is that okay?" She asked, "No, nah that's fine" Jake said trying to loosen up, and not look so uncomfortable, Erika sat next to him in a chair sitting Jackie in her lap.

"Say hi Jackie look, this is Jake" Erika said pointing at him, Jackie looked up at Jake, her eyes looking just like her mother's, "H-Hhi" Jake sputtered out waving her little hand, "Whoa, that wasn't expected, she hardly ever speaks to someone on the first try" Erika said smiling as she lightly shook Jackie, "That was good sweetie!" She encouraged, Jake had a somewhat awkward smile as he looked at her, Jackie giggled stuttering out another 'Hi!', before reaching out her chubby hands to him.

"Yo what's with that?" Jake asked, "She wants to be held" Erika giggled, "Erika, have you talked to your ex lately?" Jake suddenly questioned catching her off guard, her laugh turned into her clearing her throat, "No" Erika said bluntly making Jake scoff a bit, "What's with that?" She questioned, "Why'd you say it so nasty?" Jake questioned her back just as crude, "Why are you asking in front of my child?" She questioned him back clearly offended, "I'm just wondering if she saw her dad yet.." Jake mumbled, before Jackie starting wailing, "Look what you did!" Erika scolded him, "How's it my fault?" Jake asked with a snear as Erika rocked Jackie trying to make her stop crying, "You meantioned her dad!" Erika yelled at him, "I think your the only one offended at that" Jake told her, Erika was about to speak when Jackie cut her off screaming again as she kicked her feet.

"Please be quiet, calm down sweetie its alright" Erika told Jackie softly trying to relax her, but she just continued kicking and crying, Erika barely getting a hold of her, "Let me try" Jake spoke up, Erika glared at him, but quickly caved in and gave Jackie to him, first she started to scream more, "Your giving your mommy a hard time, I know your a savage but you gotta chill buddy" Jake said in his babyish voice, Erika's face went a little pink hearing that, Jackie was still whimpering a bit, as Jake continued talking to her while he held her, she stopped crying all together staring up at him like the most intresting thing in the world as he spoke, Jake started smiling a little at her, as she started to reach at his face slapping at the breathing mask a little, "Jackie don't do that!" Erika frantically said about to grab hr away, but Jake stopped her, "Chill, she's just playing" Jake said still smiling a bit, as he took off the mask, letting her see his full face, he kept putting it on and taking it off playing a unique form of peek-a-boo that had Jackie giggling and clapping her hands.

"I don't get it" Erika said her hand resting on her face as she watched them play, a warm happy smile but still a curious look on her face as she watched them, "I didn't think she'd be so friendly with almost stranger-" Erika was saying, just as a Doctor came in, Erika's breath hitched a bit, seeing the familair face of her former obstetrician, she tensed up a bit hoping she wouldn't say anything.

"Hi ya'll, I'm barging in like this, I seem to have stumbble on the wrong room sugars, I'm sorry" Mrs.Gray said, "Its chill- Hey stop it!" Jake half said to her and half to Jackie who pulling at Jake's face,
Mrs.Gray raised her eyebrows to Erika, who awkwardly slinked over to her, hoping Jake wouldn't notice.
"Girl, I ain't one to gossip get in business, or nothin', but is that the baby daddy you were crying and all upset about before lil' one was born?" Mrs.Gray asked glancing from her to Jake, "N-no, her dad isn't around, that's the one I broke a good relationship with, because of sleeping with my ex..." Erika explained nervously, "Girl...You get around!" Doctor.Gray said shaking her head, making Erika heat up in embarassment,
"So yo' ex-ex, is your baby daddy, but this the guy you was with before you hooked up with him?"She questioned, and Erika nodded, "Child, you a mess..." Mrs.Gary whispered, "He's so good with her too, she warmed up to him right away..." Erika said looking over at the sight that had her heart melting, "That's normal..." Mrs.Gray said watching too, "If he was around when you we're still pregnant, she probably remembers his voice, usually it helps the lil' kiddos know who daddy is...I guess not in this case though." Mrs.Gray pointed out, Erika sighed before the Doctor patted her back.
"Don't worry none, ya'll work out the rough spots, and ya'll will be a normal loving family, just don't let that rat back in your life sugar" Doctor.Gray instructed her, "I won't have to worry about my ex, he's not coming back" Erika said quietly, "I wouldn't be so sure" Mrs.Gray said in a more serious tone then Erika had ever heard out of her, Erika was about to question it, but Mrs.Gray already started to leave,
"Good luck ya'll" She called out before closing the door behind her.
