Chapter 28:Cherry

I hang up the call and I watched as one by one the contestants walked to each of their designated places and I of course went to mine.

"Santa Monica is a great place eh?" I heard some one say talking to their duo. You see here in this contest you are allowed to have a partner and I don't really know anyone In Santa Monica that's a friend so I have to do this solo. The reporter/host of the event started with the usual rules and information and that other shit before the competition could start but I didn't listen as I was eyeing my competition and the stuff I have to make the frappe on my mind.

"Coloring check" I thought to myself holding the color I'm going to be using "Should I use coloring or just use normal color than add in a cream with the color of cherry blossom" I thought to myself placing back down the container of the coloring. After the rules which if I'm correct lasted 15 minutes in that time span I've already decided what I'll do with the coloring and the design which is similar to the cherry blossom stuff found it Starbucks yet I added a bit twist to it, a rather strange twist.

The competition started and everyone except me started going faster that lightspeed to make their frappe I just stood their and once I figured out the combination of ingredients I wanna use I started going at it at the same speed of theirs but - 10 after all I was just a barista at a small cafe.

My hands started to just do everything by surprisingly those rush times at the Cafe kinda helped.. I guess. 4 minutes in I've already done the cup design and the frappe itself but no cream yet as this requires precision. I did the usual cream thing but I flattened it out and took a tweezer which I asked to bring if possible (all of us were able to do that) to the security and event manager and they agreed but they did it joking how I'll probably use it for personal hygiene or called me one of those "Hygiene Freaks" I just ignored them as usual.

My hands were shaking as I was trying to place the small cherries on the frappe and that kinda caused me some time as I needed to stop shaking and forget about the problems that could happen. After my third attempt of placing the small cherries my hand stopped shaking and halfway through the design on the cream I looked up and saw the time left was 7 minutes yet I didn't even flinch or react as I am more focused on this designed more than anything in the world except well Xandra of course.

I finished my designed and I only had about 5 minutes left and I started added more simple details on the cup and I finished at the 2 minute mark and rose my hand signaling I was done and the I didn't even notice but I was the last one to finish and emcee/host told everyone to wait at their designated places as the judges will check all the frappe and so will the audience.

The judges took so long that we all had chairs at that point and it was already give or take 20 minutes already and the emcee/host told all of us to rise and he told us how there were three winners aka three people got 1st place so they decided to give these people the reward/prize which was basically they're frappe was going to be incorporated at all the cafes that participated in the event.He started calling the numbers of the runner ups and after that he started calling the numbers of the 1st places (my number was 101).

"For the first time in the history of this competition there are three winners and those winners are number 5" the emcee/host said and number 5 went up

"Number 142 and number 143" he said and the duo that I saw talking went up (they were considered as one winner)

"And" he said "Please be me" I thought to myself and I knew that was selfish but I really needed this as it would be a boost for Escape's business "Number 181!" he said and number 181 was about to go up when one of the judges corrected him "Actually the number is 101 you messed up a bit" the judge said and I went up the stage and the emcee apologized and I went upstage and as the emcee was talking I had a thought in my mind "This very situation feels similar".I shrugged off the thought and just continued to smile.

After a few minutes or so the emcee asked us what we would name our frappe and I decided to just call it a Cherry.

12 Hours Later
I landed at the airport nearest to ours and I immediately went to Escape right after I got settled.

"We saw the broadcast,no way" Angeline said
"Thanks" I said
"Knew you would be here" Xandra said as she walked inside and hugged me
"Grats Lee" Xandra said
"Thanks anyways how much do you think me winning that contest boost this place a bit?" I said asking Angeline
"Don't know try checking the recent people that bought your Cherry" she said and I walked on to the cashier counter and looked at how many people have bought Cherry.

"Wow a solid 542" I said
"Thats for the past hour" Angeline said
"Wow" Xandra said and suddenly the bell rang and customers came in
"Don't worry you still got your leave for today only though"Angeline said
"Fine,atleast I got a day to make up the days I haven't talked to her" I said and Xandra and I left the cafe.

As soon as we left the cafe cold winds touched us and everyone else in the street "Holy shit its so cold since I left" I said shaking a bit
"Well it did kinda just get colder for some reason.Probably the start of an early winter" Xandra said
"One more month then it's back to school" she said
"Nervous?" I said
"No its just,theres something on my mind I can't really say now to be honest" she said
"You can say it to me its fine" I said
"I...I'm leaving,two days after my birthday" she said
"Start of school.." I said
"Yeah...." she said
"Its fine" I said smiling
"I can see a fake smile for a mile away" she said
"Lee..tell me,should I not go with my parents and Leah?" she said
"Go with them Xandra" I said
"But what about us?" she said
"We just started this thing and we're gonna end it already?" she added
"We have Skype,we can text,we have lots of communication tools out there and we could use them" I said
"Like I said in that contest the one we both went to.There is no forever" I said
"Anyways I'll get some grocery before I go home so bye" I said turning the other direction
"Lee...call me or just come to me if you wanna talk about this at a later date" she said and I put my earphones and played a song and wanted to run until my legs die or just scream until my voice disappears or punch something until my fists start to hurt I don't care I just want to let my anger out on something.
