I was a male School nurse in a high school. But not just any high school. The high school someone that I hold dearly to went. She always loved this School. How freely she can express herself without being judged and all the fond memories she had with her friends her.
Every time I walked down the hallways I feel like she's here with me. I was doing some paper work in the office after school filling stuff in for the school records. "Mr.Akella someone dropped this off for you." One of the office workers walked in and handing me a white envelope.
"Thanks? Who's it from?" I asked. "It was this lady with long black hair and wore this nice button up shirt with a black skirt and some boots." She spoke. "Name?" I asked. "She didn't give us her name even when we tried but she did say that you know who it's from." She answered. "Odd." I spoke. "If you want to see her she's still here looking at the trophy case and class photos" she told me. "Uhh thanks I'll go do that now if anyone is looking for me tell them I'll return shortly." I said getting up.
She nodded and I walked out of the office heading down the hallway to the trophy case. Upon reaching it I saw a female that the worker describe but I can't see any distinct features. Her bangs was covering majority of her face. I might have mistaken her as a college student at first glance. I walked up to her and cleared my throat.
"I see you've got my letter." She spoke with a smile etched on her face. "Yea I did but who exactly are you?" I asked her. She didn't answer my question but instead she looked up and pointed to something. "This girl? What happened to her?" She asked me. I walked over to her side to see what she was talking about but she was pointing to a picture of a beloved student that passed away 10 years ago.
"She used to be a student here 10 years ago her name was Willow Evergreen she died from an heart failure you could say." I looked down at the ground remembering the few months I had with her. It was short but it was meaningful. "You knew her?" She asked. "Yea, but I didn't go to this school I was actually one of the male nurses in the hospital she was staying in." I explained. Why am I telling this strange lady all of this.
"She must be really something then." She spoke. "What do you mean?" I asked. "You can barely looked at the picture that hangs in the middle of the hallway so something tells me you and her must have something then." She explained. "That's none of your concern!" I yelled. "Is it?" She questioned and walked away to the exit of the school. "By the way I would open that envelope if I were you if you wanna know my identity." She spoke.
I watched as the lady walked away. She was irritating but something about her tells me that I know her. I looked at the picture of Willow one last time before heading back to the office. I sat in my spinning chair letting out a stressful sigh. The envelope was laying on my desk.
I grabbed the letter and examined it front and back. I noticed something in the envelope that is hard but it's like a circle. I grabbed my letter opener and opened it.
What I saw inside made my heart stop beating. I pulled out a familiar looking ring. A sapphire stone in the middle with a simple design. I leaned back in my chair looking at the small thing in disbelief. The only one that could have this ring is.....but it's impossible. There was a small notecard in the envelope with a letter. I took the notecard out and began reading it.
It was such a shame we met when my time was coming to an end. If only we met earlier then we would have more time to spend time together. I love the ring by the way I can tell you picked it out specially for me and that's what I like about you. James Akella.
I put the notecard down still processing everything. I pulled out the letter next. My hands were shaking as I pulled it out and unfold the piece of paper. I read each word like it had answers as to what's happening now.
When I finished reading tears fell onto the letter. It was impossible. I just couldn't. I grabbed my jacket and keys and left the school premises. I got in my car and left.
.....don't let this be a dream.....
