Ricky came strolling into the room at that moment from the deck, clapping his hands and grinning. "Congratulations Alpha and Luna Cerulli! You have a precious little she-wolf." To Rain, he turned and bowed. "Excellent work, Rain. You are a true asset to this pack."

"Thank you," Rain beamed, wiping an elated but exhausted tear from her cheek. "I was so scared!"

"I know." He nodded and clutched her shoulder in his firm grip. "But all she needed was another she-wolf to help her along, to make her Alpha man-up and do right by her. You did a wonderful job!"

Rain nodded. At this, she turned to face the family of three, cuddled together on the very soaked bed. The Alpha and Luna were lying on their sides now, facing one another, with their perfect little pup lying between them near their chests. The Alpha was running a finger delicately through the baby's abundant black hair, cooing down at her dreamily. For her part, the Luna simply looked exhausted as she watched her mate fawn over their pup.

Ricky set to cutting the cord and cleaning Amara up, and Rain tossed herself into a chair in the corner of the room. She watched as he delivered the pup's placenta, cleaned their Luna, and then rolled the pup into a tight cocoon in a blanket, before handing her back to her elated father. Amara had fallen asleep before too long, and the Alpha had tucked his pup against his chest as he stood from the bed and wandered across the room. Presenting the bundle to Rain, he spoke softly. "Will you please hold her?"

She was a little shocked that he was parting with the pup so soon, but she quickly realized why he had asked when he began to tug on a pair of basketball shorts and then, quickly, a black t-shirt. He reached back for his daughter then and sighed contentedly. "Thank you, Rain. For everything. I wouldn't have survived this birth without you."

She nodded. There were so very many things that she wanted to say in this moment, but she bit her tongue. Now was not the time to pick a fight with her Alpha, especially not with his newborn pup in his arms.

The Alpha chewed his bottom lip, then sat in the chair beside her, clutching that little cocoon to his large chest protectively. "She's the most perfect pup that I have ever seen." He confesses this as he stared down at her with love abundant in his brown eyes. "She's just about the most perfect thing I have ever seen, period."

"You told Ryan that a she-wolf was useless to you," she confessed cautiously, feeling that she had earned her right to question his sudden change in personality. "You said that she was worthless."

Chris glanced up and met her fiery gaze. He had the decency to nod. "I did say that, yes."

"And now?" Rain challenged him, unconsciously placing a hand to her own stomach. If she was carrying a she-wolf, would he view this child as worthless, as well? And if so, what would that mean for her as the mother of the unwanted pup?

He took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. "I need an heir, Rain. So that when I wish to retire, the pack falls into the hands of a new Alpha Cerulli. To carry on my name, and my father's name, and his father's name, and so on. Do you understand?"
