The pups had taken such a liking to spending time with their Alpha that Layla had invited Chris to help with snack on Mondays. The extra hands couldn't hurt and having him around seemed to comfort some of the young wolves, particularly Rex. In turn, being around the pups seemed to soothe the stressed-out Alpha. It was a win-win.
Watching as Rex helped Chris hand out cookies to the little ones, Layla sighed wistfully. "They just don't make them like that anymore, you know?"
Rain rolled her eyes at this. "You know, one day Rick is going to hear you and he's going to be really hurt. He's a great catch!"
"He's amazing," Layla nodded. "I love my bitch dearly and I wouldn't trade him for the world, but he doesn't have an ass like that."
"Who has an ass like what?" the Alpha inquired, wandering over to the she-wolves. Quickly realizing that his dedicated helper Rex had followed him, Chris blushed. "Oh son, let's get you a cookie and get you a seat." He disappeared back to the table, settled Rex into the empty chair and piled three cookies onto the pup's large white napkin.
"He's totally dad material," Layla continued to swoon.
Rain rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time. "And Rick's not?"
"Rick is great with our pups," the other she-wolf nodded. "He's a great dad and it's totally thanks to him that the kids are so damn smart."
"You're smart too, you know," the Alpha stated as he returned to the she-wolves, this time without his younger shadow. "You don't give yourself enough credit, Lay."
"Since when do you call her 'Lay'?" Rain gaped. She was leaning against the counter with the diaper-changing station, her back sore and a protective, calming hand rubbing her overly-obvious pregnant belly.
Leaning against the wall, long, tattooed arms crossed over his chest, Chris shrugged this off quickly. "That is her nickname, right?"
Layla, perfectly awake, bubbly - and bopping around the space like she was ODing on caffeine - paused to fluff her hair playfully. "He's an honorary she-wolf: he's one of the bitches now!"
"The pups!" the Alpha gritted his teeth but grinned. "Watch yourself!"
Perfectly-timed, Rex's little mouth dropped open and he pointed at his teacher. "Ooooooo, Miss Layla said a bad word!"
India dropped the cookie she was holding, and nearly spilled her milk in her rush to join him. "Bad word, bad word, bad word!" She hopped up and down, jostling her chair and the table, and pointing an amused, accusatory finger at her teacher.
"Oh fu- do bad things to me with a chainsaw," Layla gritted under her breath. "Everything's fine! Go back to your snack. I made a mistake and the Alpha is going to punish me."
Val's blue eyes widened to saucers. "That not good, mommy. Don't leta him spank you!"
