Rain had been really nice, and throughout the past week she had done her best to explain a lot of things to Ophelia in small doses; all at once seemed too overwhelming. She had even trusted the Luna to come to her home and meet her little pup, Christopher, who, well, Phee had already met a zillion times. He was her mate's heir, after all. But she had never really cared until now: now she was trying hard to learn how to hold a pup right, how to change diapers, and all that crap. She knew that she definitely lacked the 'natural mothering' gene, but Rain assured her that she was doing really well and learning quickly.
Excited with her progress, Ophelia had wanted to spend her day telling her best friend about all the things she had learned over the past few days, but Crimson had other ideas and was off fucking Maximus again. Not gonna lie, the Luna was a little heartbroken but she was trying to force herself to enjoy the quiet time spent lying in her bed and staring at the skylight. The quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream that was perched on her mountainous stomach was helping her to relax, as were the tiny egg rolls that she'd microwaved just minutes before.
She grinned when she had the brilliant idea to dip the egg roll into her ice cream, and squealed with delight at the odd mixture of textures and tastes. "Mmmm, so good," she announced to her empty bedroom. "You don't even know how good that is!"
As though in answer to her moans of delight, she felt what could only be described as a swift kick to her belly-button and she clutched her abdomen in shock. "What the fuck?" When she felt it a second time, she actually watched with wide-eyed horror as her flesh began moving like something about of an alien film. In fact, she would have panicked if it weren't for something Rain had said a few days back: that it was perfectly normal to feel and see her pup moving inside her now, and that sometimes he might even react to the sound of her voice. Rain had assured her that this was completely normal, even if it was bizarre to witness.
Considering this, Phee set the quart of ice cream onto the bedside table and leaned back against the massive headboard. Still a bit spooked by the whole thing, but growing hopeful, she jabbed her middle finger down into the top of her pup bump. "Was that you in there?"
A minute later, a patch of her stomach right near where she had touched seemed to protrude outward in response and then there was an accompanying jiggle of movement. She giggled. "Was that really you?"
The movement repeated itself, and Phee giggled louder. "It is you. Hi, baby." She was guarded at first, but eventually she swept her fingertips gently over her abdomen and smiled sweetly. "Hi little pup. I'm your mommy, I guess. Can you hear me in there? Do I sound weird?"
Her answer was a sharp kick that stole her breath, but she was soon laughing. "Oh my goddess, this is so cool." She tossed a pillow down to the bottom of the bed and then jostled herself around so that she could rest it beneath her knees, and she cradled her stomach tenderly. "It's just us today," she told her pup. "Your daddy is out doing something boring because he's the Alpha. That makes him important, did you know that? So, mommy is here eating ice cream alone and wishing that your Aunt Crimson would stop fucking nasty wolves for long enough to come hang out. I miss her. I feel like I haven't seen her in forever." She paused and then frowned. "I think she's mad at me about you. I don't think she likes you very much."
She continued rubbing slow circles over her belly as she spoke, and it seemed to comfort the pup just as much as it was calming her own nerves. Realizing that she was enjoying this, she kept talking. "So, like, there's this other she-wolf named Rain. She's beautiful and so smart, and I know that your daddy adores her. Anyhow, she's been teaching me a lot so that I'm ready for you when you get here. Shit, there's so much to know! You expect a lot of me, huh?" Sighing, she turned her eyes back up to the skylight and grinned. "Are you going to love me?" she inquired softly. "Because I don't think I'm very lovable and I'm a little scared that you'll hate me just like everyone else. Well, except Crimson and Teej. Even if she might be mad at me right now, they're both really nice. You'll love them!"
