He held the pieces of shredded fencing back for her to pass through, then followed quickly behind her with a loud sigh. "Look, Phee, this whole thing makes me very nervous and I really don't think that you should be tagging along. Everything is very uncertain with both of the packs at the moment, and I'm not certain I can protect you!"

Ophelia paused in her movements and spun to face him. Batting her eyelashes, she smiled sweetly up at her lover. "What makes you think that I need protecting?"

Clutching his hands behind his back, he rubbed the tip of his sneaker into the dirt nervously. "Well."

"Well what?" she demanded, crossing her frail arms over her chest. "I don't need you and you don't need me, so, we're on even footing here. You're not protecting me! Clearly, you have something to gain by going to Red Dawn and so do I! I won't ask you why they are expecting you if you don't hassle me about my coming along. Deal?"

"It's your home pack," he snorted. "I assumed you wanted to—"

She glared at him. "It is, yes, and I want to return to it. But I need their new Alpha's permission to return, and you must remember that he slaughtered my parents."

"He's.....something," TJ responded with a delicate chuckle.

"Something is better than what I've got," the Luna emphasized, voice raw. "My mate is a horrible wolf who trapped me into a life that I do not want. I want to go home and resume the life that I actually want to live. So, I need this new Alpha to be on my side."

"Uh." Her lover looked decidedly uncomfortable as he fidgeted awkwardly with his fingers. "I don't think that Chris views your relationship in quite the same way."

"I don't care," she spat back. "I'm done with him! He was a means to an end and nothing more."

Pausing in his strides to ogle the she-wolf curiously, the Gamma cocked his head to the side and smirked. "Since when are you this spunky?"

The Luna waved a hand in his face and rolled her eyes. "Oh come the fuck on! Did you really think I was that dumb? Is it even possible to be as stupid as I was letting on? I can't believe all of you bought into that bullshit. Even Crimson bought it and she's smarter than all you dicks put together. Where is she, by the way? She left me caged in the basement and I haven't seen or heard from that traitorous cunt since!"

Before either of them could speak another word, two men approached them through the trees, each with an automatic rifle held firmly in his grip. They trained the weapons on the pair, and the taller of the two men, a husky strawberry blonde, spoke first. "Who are you and what do you want with Red Dawn?"

TJ raised his hands up in surrender. "I have arranged to meet with your Alpha, and he is expecting me. I come from the White Lightning Pack, I am Gamma TJ Bell, and this is our Luna, Ophelia."

Ophelia offered up a small wave and tried to play up the bimbo angle. "I too wish to speak with the Alpha," she giggled flirtatiously.

The husky blonde wolf frowned. "Why should our Alpha consider a single word that either of you might have to say?"

"Because," Ophelia shrugged dismissively, "I want my mate, Alpha Cerulli, dead. Therefore, I think your Alpha and I probably have a lot in common!"
