A/N: Why I do declare, there's some smut down below. So, you've been warned!
Their walk had been a wonderfully relaxing stroll through the tall grasses and wildflowers, into the shaded woods, and then back toward the compound. They had passed by the Mating Bungalow, deep in the recesses of the forest, and Rain had been filled with mixed sentiments. First, there was her first night with Ryan and the romantic tingles that it sent throughout her entire body. Then, there was her horrible experience beneath the Alpha, but that pain had culminated in a pup whom she had grown to love and cherish. And, dare it be said, Chris had changed a lot over the past few months, and she felt that she could actually call him a friend now.
Without even realizing what she was doing, she had dropped her mate's hand and fallen to her hands and knees, and was now crawling through the grass toward the compound. When she reached the steps of the Alpha's private deck, she groaned and propped herself onto her knees with her hands resting on the wooden stairs for support.
"Are you alright?" Ryan inquired, his voice a mix of amused curiosity and delicate concern.
She nodded slowly, rocking back and forth from one knee to the other. "I just got a wave of pain that's very intense right now." She rocked slowly back and forth and made pained faces, while her mate stood over her protectively and tried to comfort her with a shoulder massage.
Before too long, the wave of pain had turned to something more and Rain found herself again on her hands and knees in the grass, belly swinging as she rocked backwards then forwards and howled. The pain came in a kind of brutal wave, like a menstrual cramp but far more severe and demanding. It took her breath away at times, and in other moments she was breathing intensely to compensate for her earlier losses.
When Rain let out a particularly loud growl of pain, the Alpha emerged from his bedroom and onto the deck, his expression fraught with concern. "Is she alright? I heard a noise that was completely animal."
Ryan shrugged. "She doesn't want me to move her and she's grown a bit adverse to touch, but she's in bad pain. She's been on all fours rocking back and forth for a good twenty to thirty minutes now, so I imagine that the pain isn't passing."
Chris took the steps quickly, tossing himself onto his knees beside the petite she-wolf. "Rain, talk to me. Are you alright?"
"Don't touch me!" she shrieked in response, cringing away from his body. "It hurts worse when someone touches me."
He nodded emphatically. "I won't touch you, little one. Just breathe, okay? Breathing will help to center you and push you through the pain."
Rain continued rocking, offering up a mixture of grunts and moans as she moved. As her vocalizations increased, Chris realized that she was crying actual tears that were splashing into the dirt beneath her. He frowned and initially went to rub her shoulders, but then stopped himself. "Rain, you're hurting. Tell us what we can do to help you?"
