Rain was glancing around very curiously at the ragtag group of wolves seated around the picnic table. It was an unseasonably warm day, sure, but this particular pairing of individuals was odd. She handed a cold bottled water to her mate, then sat down beside him. "What's going on?" she asked of no one in particular.
Seated across the table, Isolde was leaning into her mate's side, and he was missing a shirt and breathing heavily. As if to answer the unspoken question looming, Isolde smiled. "My handsome and courageous mate was sparring with the Alpha to demonstrate a physical prowess and mental fortitude worthy of being a fine Delta."
Across the table and on the opposite end of the bench from Rain, the Alpha was also shirtless. He shrugged his wide, tattooed shoulders and smirked. "Ry has trained our new Delta well. Tomorrow will be his first unsupervised day on the job, and I expect that he will make us all very proud."
Trapped between the Alpha and his mate, Ryan clapped his hands together. "Very proud of you, cuz. You committed yourself to your training and you have really proven yourself to be an asset to the pack!"
Isolde rubbed her face on Vinny's muscular shoulder and cooed. "My mate is intelligent and brave and devastatingly handsome. He will be the best Delta that the White Lightning Pack has ever seen!"
Rain made a noise in her throat and leaned into her mate's side. "Could she possibly blow more smoke up his ass?"
Before Ryan could laugh, the Alpha cleared his throat and tried to bring about an end to a conversation that might hurt his young cousin's feelings. "Might I have a moment alone with Beta Sitkowski and his mate?" he inquired softly but firmly.
Isolde and Vinny dismissed themselves, wandering back through the woods, hand-in-hand towards their home. When they were out of earshot, Ryan sat up straighter and sighed. "You want to talk about my meetings with the she-wolves."
"Yes," the Alpha nodded. "What did you think of the ladies?" Chris then moved to the opposite side of the table, sliding onto the bench across from his brother and Rain. He ran a hand up into his short black locks and sighed. "I met with Felicity last night and I believe that she very nicely tried to inform me that she does not wish to be my Luna."
Rain's eyes widened in shock. "What? Why?"
Ryan frowned. "She would be my first choice, Chris. She is mature enough to provide the proper, loving care for little Sophia. The other girls are just that: girls."
Chris nodded slowly. "I don't disagree with you, brother, but Felicity seems very committed to returning home to her everyday normal life. She did not blatantly say she refuses to be my Luna, but she heavily suggested that it is not her personal wish."
"Shit," Ryan sighed and lowered his gaze to the wooden table surface. "So, that leaves the other two."
"What did you think of Crimson and Ophelia?" the Alpha inquired, a bit of mirth dancing in his irises as he stated the lady's names.
