Rain waited until she was on her lunch break, walking through the woods surrounding the compound, before she opened the small scrap of paper that Layla had stuffed into her hand. There was some part of her that understood what she would find scrawled on that white page, but the actual sight of the note stopped her breath for a second.

Meet me at the Mating Bungalow at 3PM.

That was how she found herself walking through the woods and glancing at her cellphone, noting that the time was 2:56PM as she knocked softly on the front door. Before she could even reconsider and spin on her heel, the door opened wide to the Alpha standing before her in a light gray t-shirt and long, nylon shorts. He smiled brilliantly, and it would have lit an eclipse. "You came!"

She was admittedly nervous, a ball of conflicted emotions as she followed him inside but left the door wide open.

The Alpha glanced at her, then at the door, and smiled sweetly. "If it makes you feel better, leave it. I understand."

He sat on the bed, but Rain opted to sit on the sofa across from the bed. The one, she realized, where the Alpha had roughly mated his Luna just months previous. She took a deep breath and tried to push past the memories, which themselves were conflicted.

Before she could center her thoughts to even consider formulating words, the Alpha leaned forward, placed his elbows onto his knees and sighed. "Look, Rain, I just want to talk, okay? I can see it written all over your face how nervous you are, and I don't exactly blame you. But I just want to say some things and I would greatly appreciate it if you would listen. There's no way I can try to talk to you around Ryan, so I felt this was my only option."

To all of this, Rain simply nodded once, folded her hands into her own lap and glanced across the room to her Alpha's expectant eyes.

He cleared his throat then, exhaled loudly and then pursed his lips. "I understand that my speaking to Richard was a violation of your privacy, and I do want to apologize for that immediately. It was literally the only way that I could gain information on your health and the pup's health without starting a war with my brother. I've brought enough hurt to Ryan, amongst other people, and I certainly do not wish a fight between my Beta and I. So, I felt it was best to confer with Richard in private."

Rain seemed to let out a breath that she was holding, glancing from his large brown eyes down to the floor. "It was wrong to violate my privacy and speak to the doctor behind my back."

"It was," Chris nodded. "I'm sorry."

"But you would do it again," Rain looked back up and met his intense gaze. "You will do it again."

Chris hesitated for a moment and then nodded. "Yes."

Rain frowned. "When will you leave me be?"

The Alpha considered this question for a moment, turning it over and over in his mind. He frowned right back at the she-wolf. "I don't want to let you be, Rain," he confessed softly, his voice a mere whisper. "I want us to –"
