Rain's sore feet dangled into the refreshingly cool water as she watched her mate cautiously wave at their little wolf. "Come on, Christopher," Ryan was coaxing gently in a silken honey tone. "I'll catch you, it's okay."
Baby Christopher, at just seven months in age, had completed his first shift and was propped on the side of the pool, staring wide-eyed into the great blue abyss. The tiny fluff of gray fur with massive brown eyes was staring intently at his father. He had initially tried to lap at the waves created when the older wolf swam, but realizing that he was apt to fall right in, he had backed off with great hesitation. When his father waved, he took a timid step backward and shook his snout slowly.
Ryan continued to gesture with his tattooed arms, inviting his pup into the pool. "Come on, little man, I've got you. Don't worry, I will catch you," he promised.
Watching the scene unfold with her heart swelling in size, Rain smiled at her boys and rubbed a hand slowly over her growing abdomen. "Maybe you should change and show him how to swim as a wolf?" she urged her mate. "He's only seen us swim like this, never as our wolves."
"You just want to see my butt," Ryan taunted, glancing at his mate over his muscular shoulder.
"Maybe," she winked back and laughed at his goofiness.
Barely the size of a robust Corgi, Christopher continued to hesitate at the edge of the water but his eyes went comically wide as there was a loud splash and the water throughout the pool was displaced. Rain and Ryan pivoted in perfect synchronization as the Alpha's toned and tanned body rose to the surface of the deep end and he swam towards their little group. The smile that pressed across his lips could have lit an apocalypse as he watched his son scamper, trying to get closer without diving into the ominous moisture. "Hey buddy," the Alpha greeted as he swam straight toward the little wolf. "You did it! You made your first shift! Daddy is so proud of you!"
At this, he scooped his heir into his long arms and stood up, preventing his son from getting soaked. Christopher literally licked his father's face, elated to be in his strong arms. His tail swished back and forth with a fervor as he continued to squirm excitedly against his father, and he emitted several high-pitched yips of glee.
Rain sighed at the sight, continuing to rub her pup bump slowly. "He really does love both of his daddies," she swooned as Ryan swam towards her and began trying to tug her down into the water by her ankles. "He's such a good boy, you know?"
"He definitely takes after his sexier, younger, and more virile daddy," her mate grinned as he continued to splash her playfully. "I don't think the intelligence comes from that old fart over there."
"People have been calling me old all week," the Alpha confessed in a dry, completely unamused tone as he set his pup back onto the concrete lining the pool. "I'm going to just be honest here: it's getting old real fast! Pun very much intended."
"Ouch," Rain tried not to giggle as her mate began fighting unfairly and tickling her feet. "Trouble in paradise?"
She watched as Chris pulled himself out of the shallow end of the pool, moisture cascading down his colorful skin. There was a moment where a memory began to surface in the furthest recesses of her mind, but she trampled it down quickly. Instead, Rain focused on watching the Alpha crawl toward their son, slinking as though he were in wolf form. He allowed the pup to bite playfully at his body as he ruffled the child's fur and laughed. "No, not really," he eventually responded somewhat flatly, and then quickly chuckled at Christopher.
