"(Y/n), I think we should break up." My heart shattered in my chest. I didn't say anything, just stared at Shawn. Warm tears clouded my vision and I tried to blink them away, but they rolled down my cheeks anyways.
Through my blurred vision I saw Shawn run a hand through his hair, awkwardly. "I don't feel like we were meant to be together, you deserve someone else." He whispered. I knew these were excuses to try help him out of the situation a little.
I shook my head. "No Shawn, you will always be the love of my life. Of course, I would never force you to feel the same way. I hope you find your true love, but you will always be mine." I croaked out. He stood there, looking guilty and sad. "Bye Shawn." I said, forcing a smile. He reached out a hand but I turned and left from his house.
I got home and went up to my room. I put on some music and lay on my bed, letting the tears slip out the corners of my eyes. I felt heartbroken, but not angry. Shawn was the love of my life, and if he didn't feel the same way, I hoped he would find someone he loved with all his heart. I would never try to cage him up or force him to love me, that's not healthy for either of us.
I let out a shaky breath and wiped my tears away. There was no use crying over him, he would still be around. I had to force myself to be happy for him.
Life carried on per usual. I found a new boyfriend, but he wasn't Shawn. I loved him, but not like I loved Shawn. No one could ever replace that love.
One day, my boyfriend and I were walking around town and we stopped by a fountain. I sat on the edge and dipped my hand into the cool water. I flicked a few drops into his face and he laughed as I smiled evilly at him. He sat next to me and cupped my chin, kissing me softly. When we pulled away, I cuddled closer to him and we sat on the edge of the fountain staring at the sky.
I looked around at everyone walking around us. Then I saw the curly hair of someone I knew well. Shawn was sitting at a cafe a little way away with another girl. He said something that made he laughed, and by the way his features lit up, I could tell he had found the love of his life. Instead of jealousy I was filled with happiness for him.
His head turned and he locked eyes with me. His smile fell and he as we stared at each other. I smiled at him, but didn't want him to get distracted from his date, so I hopped off the edge of the fountain and took my boyfriend's hand and walked away with him, leaving Shawn staring.
Before we left, I turned and gave Shawn a small wave. Yes, I still loved Shawn, but I couldn't cage him up. I had to let my true love go, but it felt good to know he had found his true love.

(A/n) This is something we talked about during an English lesson and it really struck me. I know this is really cliche and soppy, but I would love to find true love one day. I didn't give your boyfriend 'cause I wanted to keep it anonymous, but I quite like how this turned out.
