I smiled halfheartedly into the mirror and straightened my long, silly dress. Mom stood behind me and squeezed my shoulders proudly. "My little girl is all grown up now!!" She said, turning me round and holding my shoulders. I nodded, not trusting my voice, it would probably crack.
Moms face turned serious. "(Y/n)...you know no ones forcing you to do this, right? I know Shawn hurt you, but I believe everyone deserves a second chance." She smiled sadly and stroked my cheek.
A single tear ran down my face, as memories of Shawn took over my mind. Mom wiped it off my face. Shawn and I had been together two years, but I found out he had been cheating on me with my best friend for the last of those three months. He had apologized numerous times, and I thought I had forgiven him...I hadn't.
He had hurt me so bad, I started to go out with another guy, Jake. I hadn't known him as long as I had known Shawn, we'd only been together six months, but when he asked me to marry him, it seemed like something that would finally fill that hole in my heart.
I snapped back to reality when the music started playing. Mom took my hand and squeezed it. My face was clear, no more tears, and I faced the doors. Dad opened it and hooked his arm through mine.
I started walking down the hall, and my eyes scanned over the smiling crowd, to see one downcast one face: Shawn. When I reached Jake, he smiled and the service began.
We said our vows and the the priest asked the question I didn't know if I could face. "Jake Smith, do you take (y/n) (l/n) to be your lawfully wedded wife?" I saw Jake smile, and squeeze my hand. "I do." He answered. "And you," the priest turned his attention to me. "do you (y/n) (l/n) take Jake Smith to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
I opened my mouth but no sound came out. My gaze fell on the crowd, directly on Shawn's face. He gave me a heartbreaking smile as a few tears fell down his face. I felt the tension in the room rise as I didn't utter a word. I forced myself to look back at Jake, his face filled with worry. I nodded. "Yes, yes of course." I stuttered.
The awkwardness in the room faded completely and was replaced by cheers as we kissed. Jake grabbed my hand and we walked back down the isle. I looked for Shawn again, but he had vanished.
